Hi Mumsnet, I’m looking for some help about what to expect at a fertility appointment.
DH and I have been trying to conceive since Jan 2023. Since then I’ve been diagnosed with PCOS, DH has low motility, poor vitality, and lots of round cells (which apparently isn’t good) but we haven’t had results explained to us AT ALL. I got pregnant in January 2024 but it ended up being ectopic which ruptured at 12 weeks. I had emergency surgery, needed 9 units of blood, and was very unwell and lost my fallopian tube.
Basically, with PCOS, one tube, and DH with poor quality sperm - I feel like we’re not going to get anywhere naturally now. Thank God we had the sense to go back to the GP and in January (just before I found out I was pregnant) we were put on a waiting list to see a fertility specialist at the hospital. We were advised the waiting time was 34 weeks. So hopefully we’ll be seeing the specialist next month. I have no idea what to expect. All I’ve been doing is trying to get myself as healthy as possible and lose weight in preparation.
What can I expect? Is IVF the first option usually given both our issues? I’m so desperate and so sick and tired of waiting and sick of grief and resentment while everyone around us is getting pregnant. I don’t deal well with uncertainty so I’m just feeling a bit down at the moment. Any insight/advice greatly appreciated!
