Letrozole for second child - experiences please

Hi everyone

I've got a lovely 18 month old son and I'm finally turning my thoughts to our second child.

It took 18 long months, a diagnosis of unexplained infertility and letrozole to get my first son (worked the first time).

I've spoke to my fertility clinic and they've told me I'd need a monitored cycle again and ultimately I am absolutely dreading the TTC process again.

Has anyone needed letrozole the first time around but been successful naturally the second time? I was hoping it would have given my body a reminder of what it's meant to do but we haven't used contraception since my son was 6 months old and although not tracking or actively TTC, we've had no accidental pregnancies yet.

The thought of going through it all again upsets me, and I was desperate to try and have a 'normal' experience.

Hi,

Very similar situation here. Letrozole was successful for me first time around with my little boy, and now we have decided to try again.

I was dreading it too to be honest, but now we have started the process I am just hoping it works as well as it did the first time around. But aware I am older now so may not be quite as lucky.

Are you thinking of trying naturally for a bit first? We tried for a few months, not really tracking but knew deep down we'd need the help of letrozole so just waited until I was fully really to go for it

@JuliesBaby2025 we aren't trying, but also not NOT trying if that makes sense? As in we're not using protection (never have since number 2) but also not really cycle tracking either. But find myself thinking of my cycle more and more.

I have a couple of packets of letrozole left so could give them a go before going back down the private path for another round, but will wait to start that until my son is 2 (so we get free daycare hours before number 2 is here!).

Please let me know how you get on?

Sorry that was meant to say never have since we had number 1!

I’ve been looking into Letrozole - did you need monitoring and to have hcg trigger or just took them cycle 2-6 with no monitoring? Did you have to do ovulation tests ?

@IsitevenaCake I had monitoring for the first cycle, which turned out to be my only cycle. Didn't have a trigger and I took days 3-7. I had a load of tests which covered ovulation and showed I was ovulating. I was prescribed letrozole as a last resort before IVF.
