Prostap for IVF FET, any experiences?

Hi :)

I'm just about to start an IVF for a frozen embryo transfer following a chemical pregnancy in the early spring. I'm quite irregular (especially after the chemical), so am due to inject my Prostap tomorrow on day 2 as ive come on today, and then estrogen after ive had a scan in two weeks to check that my lining is thin and ready to go.

My question really is I'm wondering what to expect. To be honest I've been mostly fine with the vast array of infertility drugs ive been prescribed over the years, but was it a struggle for anyone afterwards, and how quickly did any side effects start?

Am going away on holiday next week which I think will either be a blessing or I'll be a tired hormonal emotional mess 🤣🤣 am very much hoping it'll be option 1 as me and hubby have been looking forward to this holiday for a while and it's very much needed after a stressful few months!

Any experiences would be appreciated x

Hi @cbear1989

Really sorry to hear about your chemical Flowers

I had the prostap injection for my FET. I didn't have any side effects until about 1-2 weeks after where I started having some mild menopausal symptoms in the form of hot flushes. I would be on work calls and suddenly my chest would be burning up. This was manageable though, only occasional, and I didn't have any other side effects.

So overall it wasn't too bad for me.

Hopefully you don't get any side effects.

cbear1989 · 02/05/2024 18:15

Aww thank you @lemons44 , and thanks for this - reassuring actually, hopefully I'll get to enjoy my hols before the symptoms kick in too badly, not too fussed if I turn into a crazy lady sweaty lady at home 🤣🤣

Thanks again, sending luck your way too for your journey xxx

Hi @lemons44 how long did your symptoms last?

@cbear1989 @lemons44 I had my prostrap injection yesterday it was administered by the nurse. That evening I felt horrible...palpitations, headache, so tired and during the night I felt very warm. Today its been tight chest, headache, emotional rollercoaster and hungry 😭 I think how you feel all depends on you as an individual. Are you both on elleste solo? I'm also having to take tinzaparin which is a blood thinning injection because I scored at risk for blood clots. I don't know how to feel about them either. My provisional transfer day is 3rd of June and I'm going on holiday the week before 👀 I feel like I bloody need a break before this transfer so on the day I am feeling more relaxed. I'm just really scared about side effects

lemons44 · 03/05/2024 08:27

@Sherr33 I think my side effects probably lasted about a week to 10 days.
I'm so sorry you've had such bad side effects!! It really is a lottery with how you will react.

After I had the prostap I started progynova (eostrogen) tablets. I also had blood thinning injection this round called Inhixha. It has left me with such big bruises on my belly!

cbear1989 · 03/05/2024 11:23

Morning guys! I'm gonna do the jab this afternoon so will see how I feel I guess 🤣🤣 fingers crossed it won't be too bad!

I've just gotta do this and then take estrogen tablets ready for FET, tbh I'm so happy it's just the one injection for me this time around after the constant stabbing for the egg retrieval!

@Sherr33 just enjoy your hols and try and put it out of your mind so you can enjoy yourself, being away somewhere lovely is probs the best distraction for you! I'm hoping the same will apply to me next week, cannot wait to get away!

@lemons44 poor you, the bruised belly is never fun! fingers crossed all of this will be worthit in the end for all of us 🤞💗

Please update with how you're getting on once you're going in for transfer, if you feel upto it of course, always good to have some support for each others journeys! sending lots of luck ♥️♥️♥️

Ohh I thought they'd last a few days. Im giving myself pep talk just another day to go. I've had vaginal irritation too. I had no choice but to pester my clinic today but aparantly this can be a side effect so just going to trooper through and pray that once on the tablets I dont have much side effects. @lemons44 how were you on the tablets? Did you have any other issues whilst on the blood thinning injection. Its not knowing what to expect that just makes me so anxious. And I hope I'm okay during my flight. Although I've realised I may have to insert my pessary either on the plane or at the airport 🤦‍♀️

@cbear1989 good luck. Im not sure what time your having the prostrap.

Yes please share anything that you are doing through this FET

Mine is a holiday before transfer
To continue with my vit d folic acid after transfer and NOT to apply my hot water bottle directly to my stomach like I did with my fresh transfer and just relax for the first week. Not get up too much, not lift or start cleaning randomly like I did before 🤦‍♀️

cbear1989 · 03/05/2024 12:48

@Sherr33 bless you, the waiting and the unknown is just the worst. Always useful to hear how people get on with meds but remember everyone is different so don't worry yourself into feeling awful, make sure you enjoy that holiday and try and put it out of your mind, you got this! your body and mind being in a nice relaxed state is gonna be the best thing for your transfer.

Just done my jab! Shall see how I end up 🤣🤞

@Sherr33 also the pessaries really aren't that bad. I started off vaginally thinking that the other way would be horrendous but my clinic got my to do it rectally before my transfer as you obviously can't do it vaginally, and once I'd done it that way its so much easier, and doesn't leak out🤣🤣

OP posts:
Sherr33 · 03/05/2024 13:10

@cbear1989 heres hoping you fare better. Haha I did them rectally for my fresh cycle. But I was just imaging the space in plane toilets and trying to shove to up there. Hahaha as long as I don't topple over in process or worse lose one if the bum bullets 🤣

I know I think I've put so much things on hold I was not going to let this break go. Wondering whilst on these meds is all alcohol a no no? 🙈

cbear1989 · 03/05/2024 13:32

@Sherr33 haha very true you couldn't make it up could you 🤣🤣 you'll be fine though don't worry, just make sure you have a lovely break and you'll feel ready to tackle another transfer once you're back home 🥰 almost a shame really that both of our holidays aren't during our two week waits really 🤣🤣

yeah I know what you mean, you get to the point where you just have to live life and not put anything else off. its a tough old journey, but honestly the holiday will do you a world of good.

I did wonder re drinking myself... as I'm planning on enjoying a few cocktails whilst I'm away. I haven't asked the nurses specifically but they knew I was going on holiday straight after and didn't say I couldn't drink or have sex or anything like that, so I'd imagine it'll be okay to carry on as normal. xx

@Sherr33 I didn't have any other issues with the blood thinning jabs except they are more painful than my other jabs 😖

Sherr33 · 05/05/2024 08:42

Oh dear @lemons44 😔 this journey can be so taxing on our bodies.

@cbear1989 @lemons44 I dont know how normal this is after prostap but I am having vaginal discomfort. And pain in my ovarian area. I'm so scared something has gone wrong but I cant do anything till tomorrow. 😔 and I can't find much information on the Internet either

cbear1989 · 06/05/2024 11:19

@Sherr33 did you manage to find anything out or speak to your nurses or anything? I haven't had anything like that myself although last night I was violently sick twice 😅🙈 hard to know for sure if it's the meds or something I've eaten but not the best start to the hols 🤣🤣 feeling better today though so will see how I go! Hope everyone is feeling okay today xx

OP posts:
Sherr33 · 06/05/2024 14:26

@cbear1989 my clinic got back today and said the vaginal irritation and changes in discharge is not a common side effect of prostap. So tomorrow I'll pop into locala to just get checked for everything. I'm now thinking is it thrush or bv. I just hope it sorts itself out. Oh no! Did you eat anything different?

cbear1989 · 07/05/2024 16:15

@Sherr33 bless ya, how are you feeling today? Did you manage to get an appointments or anything today?

Who knows haha but I haven't been sick since and have been enjoying the all inclusive so it could be worse 😅😅

OP posts:
Sherr33 · 07/05/2024 19:40

@cbear1989 ive got quite a lot of discharge and I am quite uncomfortable in vaginal area. I was told by my clinic that those are not common side effects of prostap and to go to gp etc so I went to locala today and had swabs done everything has come back clear. And he did say the vaginal area internally all looked okay and he did see some discharge etc but it could be a rare effect of the prostap. I really want it to go away though so now I'm contemplating asking for some antibiotics just in case 🤔 I dont know its uncomfortable and I want it fixed 😅

cbear1989 · 13/05/2024 14:55

Sorry guys, back from enjoying my hols now and back to reality! How's everyone feeling?

To be fair, in terms of side effects I've not really been suffering, not even had many hot flushes. Who knows whether the vomiting was that or something I ate but other than that have been fine. Next steps I can hopefully start on my estrogen and get cracking with FET 🤞♥️

OP posts:
Sherr33 · 15/05/2024 11:45

@cbear1989 im having a right cry. So the hospital couldn't book me in for transfer in the date my clinic had initially put down for me so now everything has been pushed forward. I had my scan today and would have started my estrogen tablets tomorrow but because transfer has been delayed I have to start them next week on Thursday and also bank holiday Monday I have to now either take another dose of prostap or start buserilin injections 😩 ive opted for buserilin because the prostap gave me right issues in my vaginal area ...Reading the buserilin side effects is worrying me more though

cbear1989 · 18/05/2024 16:32

@Sherr33 how are you feeling? Poor you sounds like such a head f**k!! The waiting around and delays are just the worst with this process. I've started my estrogen tablets yesterday after my scan this so hopefully should know more next week for when my transfer might be. Hope everyone is doing okay! xx

Also is anyone else feeling super sick with progynova?🤪🤢

OP posts:
Sherr33 · 18/05/2024 16:58

@cbear1989 i hate how out of control I am with this cycle.

Im not on progynova
Also do you know the period after your prostap how long did yours last? Usually my bleeds are like clockwork and last 6 days but im not on day 9/10 and im still getting red when I wipe. Its not heavy or anything for instance il have a clean liner half the day and then boom red patch. I don't knoww hat to do about that because hello holiday coming up and I don't want to be in the sea or pool tingey. I don't know how I feel about tampon in pool either 🤔

cbear1989 · 18/05/2024 17:34

@Sherr33 bless you, sorry that you're suffering! I'm super bloated and on and off sickness but hopefully it's all for the greater good 😅😅

I actually have pretty irregular periods, particularly after my chemical so I took my Prostap on day 2 and didn't have to wait for a bleed, just had to scan 2 weeks after that to check everything had essentially shut down and my lining was thin before I could start the estrogen. So think I'm on a different protocol to you, sorry I can't be much help! I'd honestly just stick a tampon in on hols just in case and enjoy your hols, you'll be fine then and can relax when you are in the pool or the sea! have the best time and try and switch off, it'll do you the world of good 😘
