What to expect after a failed FET

Hi I posted yesterday after testing negative 6 days after a day 5 transfer and today on day 7 it’s still negative (not even a hint of a faint line) so I have prepared myself that I am officially out. I’m feeling very depressed and sad about it.

Official test day is not untill Thursday next week but I feel like stopping the Cyclogest now.

I want to know what happens after a failed FET? When do you start bleeding after you stop cyclogest? How much do you bleed, is it like a heavy period or..? I know everyone is different I just need to know what to expect and what’s gonna happen now.

Thank you in advance 🙏🏻

Hi @KG2022 I'm really sorry to hear you've been testing negative, it's a crishing feeling, but I would caution not to stop the Cyclogest until the clinic give you the OK...

With my failed FET, I started my period 4 days after stopping Cyclogest, and it was an ordinary period both in terms of cramps and heaviness of bleeding. I did ovulate a bit earlier afterwards (CD10 instead of CD12-15) and have a shorter cycle.

If this round doesn't end up well, I wish you the very best of luck if you try again. Sending strength xxx

Hi @beachbum85 thank you very much for your reply and message 🙏🏻

It’s day 8 today and still negative so I’m definitely 100% out. What is the reason not to stop Cyclogest if all tests are negative so far?

I'm sorry @KG2022 that's gutting.

You hear the exceptional stories of late implanters and I personally wouldn't want that 'what if', although I remember the pain of repeated negatives still OTD very vividly. Maybe you can contact the clinic and ask?

@beachbum85 Thanks for your reply. It is indeed heartbreaking seeing that negative test.

Clinic said you’re not out untill official test date so I will continue the medication.

sorry to sound a bit blunt clinic said implantation takes place day after embryo transfer which would have been a week ago today so shouldn’t there already have been something on a test or can you actually implant really really late? My cycles are bang on 28 days and I know I ovulated 5 days before the transfer. I haven’t had any implantation symptoms at all. I’m so confused.

I don't have any personal experience (only time I tested before OTD it was a failed cycle) but my frantic Googling did find very, very few cases of women saying they got a first positive at 9 or even 10dp5dt. I don't want to give false hope as my understanding is that it's likely to turn into a chemical in that case but, knowing there's an exception to every rule when it comes to these things, I personally preferred to wait until OTD. At the end of the day, it's your choice, of course.

@KG2022 I echo @beachbum85 my cycle started 3 days aftet stopping Progesterone and my cycles have been shorter ovulating on CD 10 or 11 (in my recent cycle as I've done back to back natural FETs, on my 3rd one now), I usually ovulate CD 12-14. I too was keen to get off Cyclogest once I felt it did not work but did stick with them as advised by the clinic, as there is that very very slight possibility something could happen

@beachbum85 did you find your cycles returned to normal the following month or in your current natural FET?

beachbum85 · 29/04/2024 10:25

@Sunflower360 yes, after the one shorter cycle where I ovulated on CD10, I went back to normal and ovulated on CD12. That was my natural FET so I can't tell cycle length, but I'm pretty sure it would have been normal for me.

@KG2022 I'm so sorry about the negative testing, it is a heart-wrenching feeling too many of us have to go through. Could you ask for a beta HCG test? With my second (failed) cycle, I demanded a blood test from my previous clinic (Create); they do bloods on day 9 and urine on day 11. So effectively I saved 2 days as I knew by day 9..

For me, I started bleeding from day 12.. it's safe to go into another FET immediately.
