What does an NHS IVF round include?

Hi all, wondering whether to bother applying for the one NHS round I'd be eligible for.

Does one round mean:
a) one collection and one embryo transfer
or
b) one collection and then a transfer attempt with each embryo created

It's different with different ICBs, some are a set number and others are all until (until a live birth)

Thank you. I've just looked up the policy in my area and it looks like all embryos created are considered part of the round. The possibility of multiple transfers seemingly makes it more valuable and worth applying for.

"For the purposes of this policy, a full IVF cycle is defined as one episode of
ovarian stimulation and the transfer of any resultant fresh and frozen
embryo(s). The cycle may be with or without intracytoplasmic sperm injection
(ICSI).
All frozen embryos should be transferred before starting the next NHS funded
fresh IVF cycle. Embryo transfer strategies outlined in NICE CG156 should be followed to minimise the number of multiple births. Storage of cryopreserved supernumerary embryos will be funded for a maximum of two years following each fresh cycle. Natural cycle IVF is not routinely funded."

Hi, this depends on many reasons which you will find in IVF on the NHS guide. Hope this helps.

Hey it depends on your local care board and what they will fund

I am with South East London so for me it was
1 full cycle of IVF that included

  • x1 round of Egg collection with medications
if they have to cancel it on the day of your u well, you do get another go

-Maximum of 3 embryo transfers - 1 fresh + 2 frozen , or in my case I had a freeze all cycle so I am entitled to x3 frozen embryo transfers Instead

-Storage of frozen embryos for 24 months for free

hope this helps:) it usually tells you on the local care boards website what they will fund :) good luck
