Hi, lucky enough to have a 3 year old from our first and only FET and now preparing to try for a sibling.

Only have 2 embryos in the freezer so wanting to hear stories about others transfers and how many tries it took?

Has anyone had success on a first and second try??

We went through 4 transfers before finally having our little boy who is now 17 days old.

Transfer 1 - was a fresh transfer but ended in miscarriage at 8 weeks
Transfer 2 - was a frozen transfer and failed to implant.
Transfer 3 - was a fresh double transfer but both failed to implant.
Transfer 4 - was a frozen transfer and ended up with our beautiful baby boy.

I think it’s hit or miss and will depend on a variety of factors each time.

All the best on your transfer x

Just jumping on this thread as I'm pretty sure (99.9%) FET 2 has failed. @SH998 if you don't mind me asking how old were you when embryos collected/during FETs ? Also was anything different tried each time? I'm 38 so conscious of abnormal embryos but also on steroids and aspirin. Am considering a double for the 3rd FET and then that would be 4 emrbyos tried but of course slightly nervous about that as there is a possibility both could fail

@Sunflower360 feel free to ask away, I was 38 on my first collection (resulted in 2 embryos so 2 transfers took place).
The second collection I was 39 (resulted in 5 embryos and 2 transfers, we have 2 embryos still frozen). None were tested.
What grade are your 2 embryos your thinking of transferring together?
We had 2 x AA’s and both failed. In hindsight I wouldn’t have transferred 2 top quality ones as I felt I lost 2 in one go which was harder to deal with than just losing 1, if my body wasn’t ready then no amount of embryos were going to implant successfully. That’s just my view/experience. You have to do what’s right for you.
All 3 transfers followed the same process, however on the 4th I had additional bloods done to check there was no underlying issues (these were for Lyme disease and other possible issues, all bloods came back fine)
For the 4th transfer I insisted on my progesterone being increased as they had never tested this, they added a Lubion injection I’m adamant the lack of progesterone was my issue all along. I would spot a week before my period was due each month, although I was told this wasn’t an issue they never tested so this wasn’t looked into.
It’s such a mentally draining process with something being learnt each time.

@SH998 thanks for your response, its such a minefield of information and very subjective! This is my info:

FET 1: 5AB BFN
FET 2: 5BA BFN (beta tomorrow but FRER has as good as confirmed its not worked)

In this FET 2 I have been spotting since 5dp5dt (pink and then brown since everyday). I wonder if it attempted to implant but failed, if its an aneuploid then suppose that would make sense. In any case my Progesterone levels were tested at transfer and were really good (69 nmol) and I didn't spot on my first FET so this transfer was different in that respect. I do normally spot before a period but normally its a few days before, not 5, and its never pink just brown so not sure what happened this time.

My remaining embryos are a mixed bag - 5BB, 5BB (day 6), 5BC, 5CB, 4CC. I also have a 12 cell day 3 as yet to culture. Dr has said previously if doubles are done it would need to be 2 the same grading level. So likelihood would be 2 x 5BB or 2 x 5BC/CB.

I wonder if my steroids might be upped with the thyroid antibodies but not sure, in any case its more of a time saving putting 2 in... that would end up being 4 embryos transferred then up to that point.

I am considering further egg collections if the next FET does not work, then revisit FETs. Want to bank what we can for transferring before I get older!

Did you do any of the extra tests like EMMA/ALICE/ERA etc? Also was it natural or medicated FET that you did? I've been doing natural

SH998 · 27/04/2024 09:50

Wow you have a good few embryos left and good grades too. My successful one was a 5BB :)
I have done all medicated transfers and didn’t do any additional testing such as EMMA/ALICE/ERA. This was mainly due to the fact I was NHS funded and these tests are not carried out. I did look into them privately but was told it would be unlikely the NHS would take these into consideration.
