Ovarian cyst and IVF can someone advise

Hi, I am 39 years old and going to be 40 in June so not much longer to get funded for IVF on the NHS. I went for my baseline scan on Monday after taking Provera 10mg twice a day for 2 weeks. It was on day 4 and they found 2 ovarian cysts on my left and right ovary one was 1cm and another 3cm. Strangely this was never present in December or February when scans were done to my surprise when I saw the consultant on Monday she was asking why I took Provera. The only thing I have done differently is start Provera which I thought prevents ovarian cysts not sure how it caused it. I have been advised to take norethisterone 5mg twice daily for 3 weeks and repeat the scan when my period comes to see if the cyst has disappeared. Does anyone have experience or been in the same boat as me to give advice? What helped them reduce this cyst naturally? To say I am heartbroken is an understatement as I don't have much time left and feel there are obstacles every time I try to take the next step.

Hi @grhrn1984 didn't want to read and run as in a similar situation! I had an initial scan for IVF in late January/early Feb and this showed a 7cm cyst that had not been shown on any previous scans (I had a miscarriage in early Jan) so came as a huge shock as no-one mentioned anything through the several scans we had for that, it's now been something like 8 or 9 weeks and at the last scan it had reduced to 3ish cm, I had to go on the pill for 3 weeks to have a withdrawal bleed as well as I believe it was stopping my periods from returning. I can only attest to my situation but for me it has reduced (frustratingly slowly!) and my clinic didn't seem to think it would be a problem to go ahead and do a cycle with the cyst the size that it is now and we're just waiting for my next period to hopefully go ahead (given that it's not bigger), did they say they would only do a cycle for you if they are shown to not be there at all at your next scan? Can you ask for another consultant's opinion?

@egg2410 Thank you for responding. The consultant mentioned something about possibly aspirating the cyst and yes I think they will only do it if it goes away. That is great news that the cyst reduced in size. Can I ask after they discovered the cyst which pill did you take to reduce the cyst ?
