Waiting for our initial test results appointment, Sheffield

Second post but looking for a bit of help if anyone’s been in a similar position to us.

We are in the beginning stages of hopefully starting fertility treatment. We have had our initial consultation at the Jessop wing in Sheffield, in January this year.

We have been TTC for almost 2 years, I am 36, and my FH is 41, (he is type 1 diabetic). I’ve had a few blood tests, and had scans/ HSG at the beginning of March and he had just repeated his sample test. Initial results said he potentially had a lower end sperm count, hence the repeat. No previous children for either of us, but we did have a suspected missed miscarriage in lockdown.

Any one been on a similar time line and can shed any experience on how long the next steps might take? And at what stage in the process did you find out if you are eligible for funding?

I’m definitely overthinking every thing (always do!), but I’m getting worried they are doing all the tests for us to then find out we aren’t eligible, and at the moment we aren’t in a position to go private.

Thanks in advance for any help or advice, it’s feeling like a very lonely journey so far. I knew it was going to be hard, but it’s all a little bit overwhelming x

Hi, I've just had my first embryo transfer at Jessop fertility unit. We are NHS funded- after our gp referred us to Jessop (our gp did all first tests for hormones and semen) we had to wait for a few months to hear from them. We finally had our first (phone) appointment with the ACU on 30th August 2023. This was just a call with the nurse who wanted to go though all details and test resulsts from oural gp and asked for a couple more tests for me. Then on the 27th November we had our next phone appointment with their clinical head. He confirmed we were accepted for NHS funding and said we would get an appointment to attend the clinic. That first appointment at the clinic was on the 3rd week of January. We met the clinical head and he explained the whole process. We also chose a date to start IVF, which depends on when your next period starts. Because my period was coming in the following week to that appointment and it was too early we had to wait for the next month. So finally, I started my treatment at the beginning of March.

We had a long wait between Augusts and November because I was waiting for information they had to send me to book tha tests they requested but they didn't send it, so in October I contacted them and it seems there was a problem with the system so they never sent it. Otherwise I think it would have taken less time.

Hope this is not too confusing and helps!

That does really help, Thank you so much!! I really appreciate you replying to me.

I think our next appointment will be to go through the results and sign some paperwork then. And then hopefully we will get a date to have our first round?!

Its such a process… hope everything is going ok for you so far xx

@summerfootprint It takes forever to get started but once youbstart it all goes so quickly!
I had the transfer done on Saturday so just started my TWW which I think it's the worst part as it keep thinking if it worked or not 😅

We have been very lucky so far as my AMH results showed I had loe ovarian reserve so they gave me stronger injections but in the end we got a lot of embryos! We had a fresh transfer and 7 frozen ones. It was so unexpected and hopefully if this one doesn't work, I have more to use!

I hope you get your next appointment soon. Good luck and keep me updated!
