Hi , we have had 5 miscarriages including 5 ivf transfers, two were natural conception and 3 from the ivf transfers. I am now 41 .. 1st miscarriages at 37, my partner is 43 now and has sperm DNA fragmentation of 34%, we had tissue sampled of one of the miscarriage and fetus was triple x postive, which would have been chromazone issues from (my) female side .. no other explanation for infertility, we are both fit and healthy..

my question is ..

is there any hope for us ? We start another round of ivf next month and so wondering if anyone has success stories of life birth after so many miscarriages and years of ttc ??

thanks in advance.

I'm so sorry for your losses. Have you PGTA tested your embryos up until now? If not that would be the next thing I would do.

hopefullsosbry · 06/03/2024 06:57

@SErunner hi, thanks, yes we are trying to do that for our next cycle .. and trying for ICSI as was ivf last cycle so we thought ICSI might make a difference this time ? Just not sure what else we can try ? Get tested for ? Thanks for your reply.

I'm sorry you're going through this ❤️ I've had 6 losses now, diagnosed immune issues (but treatment failed). 2 of my babies were totally healthy but my body let them down. We've done all the tests, and then some.
We've just finished our 4th round of ivf and we didn't get anything to blastocyst (our 1 potential early blast arrested on day 6, yesterday).

It's completely soul destroying. We've got 1 round left before we're walking away, I'm not even sure I've got the energy to do it right now. We've only ever done ivf but going to do PICSI next time which is supposed to help dna frag (my dh's is 14%), so in reality, I think its my eggs. I just hoped at 40 I'd have a bit more time. If your clinic offers that, or zymot, that's for dna frag too.

They've not worked so far for me, but make sure you're taking good ubiquinol, check your vitamin D levels and thyroid. Is your dh on impryl? That's supposed to be one of the best for dna frag.

Sending lots of love. Xx

Unless there is a sperm issue I personally wouldn't use ICSI - my consultant advised that natural selection is preferable via routine IVF unless there is a known issue. Would be worth asking your consultant their thoughts. Unfortunately at your age your egg quality is likely to be poor, and it may be the sad case that this is the root of the problem and it is simply a numbers game to try to get one that is viable. There are a whole battery of tests etc you could do under the remit of reproductive immunology and microbiome testing, but the reality is these fields are generally poorly evidenced and tests etc can be hugely expensive. The HFEA doesn't recommend them because of the lack of evidence but plenty of clinics offer them.

So sorry you are going through this. I had 5 miscarriages and my 6th pregnancy was successful. It was such a stressful and traumatic experience when we were going through it.
We ended up doing IVF with PGT-A. My husband saw an andrologist for his sperm quality (DNA fragmentation) and was able to improve it significantly through diet, lifestyle and supplements. So we were going to do ICSI, as is usually recommended for DNA frag, but ended up doing IVF.
Have your clinic recommended any recurrent miscarriage testing? It’s so hard to know… your losses could all be due to chromosomal abnormalities or there could be underlying issues as well.
I had a couple of diagnoses and was prescribed aspirin, heparin and steroids during pregnancy. Recurrent miscarriage testing is a complicated area and there’s a designated Mumsnet board for it if you wanted to investigate this more (and haven’t already).
Wishing you all the best with your next cycle.

I’m in a similar position OP - 3 consecutive miscarriages. No live births. Late 30s. Don’t know what else to do. Just in despair. Hope you are doing ok xx

Have you had any testing done ? Hope you are ok and sending big hugs 🤗

Sorry for the late replies .. we have finished our 2nd round , we done ICSI this time due to sperm DNA frag, got 3 blasts this time so hoping one of these work .. @VenusStarr i am so sorry for your losses .. did you start your next round? I hope this one works out for you 🤞🏽
@SErunner yeh I am thinking egg quality, we will do the PGT testing next time , we just didn’t have the money this time but we will defo look to do that if we do a next round , thanks so much, I haven’t done the microbiome testing .. I’ll look into that thanks.
@sweetpea2000 thats amazing news that on your 6th you fell pregnant.. thanks for sharing your success story this gives me hope, I am just sorry you had to suffer losses prior. The reacurrent miscarriage clinic done all the checks that they can, I am on progesterone this time also after transfer which I wasn’t before so will see if that makes a difference 🤷🏼‍♀️🤞🏽✨

Hi @hopefullsosbry I'm so pleased you got 3 blasts ❤️ I ended up having a bit of breakdown a couple of weeks after I posted. I've been on antidepressants which have helped a lot and took a couple of months off work. We've not done our 3rd cycle yet and I'm undecided if I want to. We've parked it for now and might revisit in the autumn.
Did you do a fresh transfer?

Sending you lots of love @LAURAPAX ❤️

LAURAPAX · 23/06/2024 09:43

hi @hopefullsosbry thank you for your kind message. I don’t feel strong at the moment I am so broken and I don’t even think it has hit me yet. I’m just so fearful that there is something that means I can never have / carry a baby with my or donor eggs. But there is nothing obviously wrong I’m under private clinic and have had all the testing done. I have some embryos waiting for me (first transfer failed) but all my pregnancies have been natural one in 2022, one in 2023 then couldn’t get pregnant naturally and was going through ivf at the same time. Then failed transfer then another nautral pregnancy ending in loss just now. As soon as I found out I was pregnant my clinic put me on progesterone so those numbers are all looking good. It’s keeping the pregnancies but I’ve had nk testing (slightly high) the RPL blood testing which was normal. As I’m sure you feel I just don’t know what to do / where to turn too and so freaking out it’s never going to happen and that it feels so out of my control. Not sure how to keep going. What are your next steps? Sending love xxx

LAURAPAX · 23/06/2024 09:45

I’ve also had HSCG, hystoscopy, EMMA ALICE, NK. The RPL blood tests. I don’t know what else there is to test for? Xxx

LAURAPAX · 23/06/2024 09:48

sorry @VenusStarr your story has always touched my heart since I joined these boards two years ago and wish our circumstances were much different and I didn’t even know what Mumsnet was. You are always so kind with your advice and support to woman on here. Life is so awful sometimes and I’m sorry. Look after yourself and your DH 🧡🧡

hopefullsosbry · 23/06/2024 10:27

@VenusStarr I am sorry to hear you have been feeling so low, the fertility road can really take its toll mentally and physically, please remember you are absolutely amazing and very strong for even going through all this in the 1st place. I hope you can take your time to go through all the emotions you need to go through, feel all the feels and take time to process everything. And I wish you to get to your happy place again where you can decided if continuing the fertility road is what you want to do. I really hope you are ok and can keep your chin up and we are always here if you need to speak (text) at all. YOU ARE AMAZING GIRL! 💖

@LAURAPAX you seem to have had everything tested, well done you for going through all these, some really intrusive and painful tests ! Have you checked partners sperm DNA fragmentation? Although perameters can show normal there can still be issues with DNA frag? Only think I could think of would be to test embryos PGT testing ? I am sorry this must be so frustrating for you to not know the reason why it doesn’t work , we are kind if in the same boat with unexplained infertility , apart from my partners slight DNA frag (which can cause reacrrent miscarage and implantation failures) and my age for egg quality .. AMH was 14 (I am 41) so not the worst for me age ? Sometimes the answer will never be known .. which is really hard I think. 😩😔🩷
