Does frozen sperm deteriorate?

So I've been thinking about this recently. We bought some frozen sperm about a year ago, quite a few vials, we have tried lots of rounds of IUI with no luck so moving onto IVF soon.

But does anyone know if it deteriorates over time?

Like when you buy meat and they say it can be frozen for up to a month? (I don't like to compare sperm to meat but you know what I mean... they say it still goes bad).

If this sperm has been frozen for a year, is it going to be less likely to get me pregnant? 😕 Should we buy fresh sperm samples?

Your clinic would advise if you need to use it by a certain time. They also don’t tell you when the sample was given (probably for this reason). Embryos can be stored for 55 years, there’s a recent story of someone getting pregnant from a 50 year old embryo so I wouldn’t worry, your clinic checks the quality of the sample when they thaw it anyway!

Thanks @Btowngirl Yes you are right, they would say wouldn't they. Such an anxious time before having fertility treatment, I think my brain tries to find itself things to worry about! 😅

@circlesand no worries, totally get that it’s a real head game isn’t it getting through assisted fertility!
