Natural FET and progesterone

We've just had a failed FET on a natural cycle and I've got my head in a spin thinking that I may have been on too much progesterone and it affected the implantation window.

My progesterone levels weren't tested at any point recently and I was on 400mg three times a day, which is more than my previous fresh transfers, and this time my body should have been producing progesterone naturally...

So, if you've had a natural FET, would you mind sharing how much progesterone you were on, when you started, and if you had any blood tests to confirm levels before transfer? Thanks a lot!

Sorry to hear your cycle failed. For my FETs I was on 400mg cyclogest twice per day and had bloods done to check levels (can't remember what they were but they were fine). How much you take will depend on the drug you're using. I know plenty of people on here who have been on the dose you're on. I'd try not to worry too much, I doubt that was the reason for your cycle failure but if you're concerned you could speak to your clinic and ask for bloods next time for reassurance.

For my natural cycle I was on no progesterone at all until positive test. My transfer was timing 7 days after positive ovulation test. I did take ovitrelle x3 before and after transfer as this is supposed to help boost lining. I don’t believe you can overdose with progesterone as currently I am on high doses and asked my consultant can I take too much and they had advised no 🤷‍♀️ I’ve never had my levels actually checked though!

sorry to hear about your failed cycle, so you have some more Frosties you can try next? xxx

Thank you both @SErunner and@Ellenn !

I was on Cyclogest too... Good to know that it's not a crazy high dose and you likely can't get too much progesterone. I know there are so many other likely causes but with what they said was a great lining and a perfectly thawed embryo, I just can't help looking for some answers although I know it's probably the embryo itself.

I started the day after positive ovulation test, and the transfer was on the sixth day after the positive test. I'll definitely ask for bloods next time... it's our last frostie!

@beachbum85 I had a natural FET in late January and was advised to start Cyclogest 400mg twice a day from 2 days before the transfer and up until my test day (carrying on if BFP). I didn't have any blood tests before to check my levels - I think they just think increased progesterone up to 10 weeks of pregnancy can help reduce the risk of MC. Wishing you all the best with your next transfer.

Thank you very much for the info @Custard7891 - it's reassuring to hear that different clnics take different approaches and they work. I hope your transfer was successful xxx

Hi, I know this thread is old but just thought I would comment if anyone has any advice ?

I am currently on 2nd round of IVF. Had 5 losses (3 chemical and 2 missed miscarages) never been prescribed progesterone before , I have never had any bleeding until they ‘came away’ if that makes sense, but this round of IVF I have been given progesterone suppositories (Crinone) as well as progesterone Lublion injections (25mg) to take one of each a day .. they have not checked levels as say they don’t do this mandatory and it’s just cause I have had so many losses they are giving me the extra progesterone, I am not sure though whether this is too much, should I just take the suppository without injection ? I have heard too much progesterone can hinder implantation ? My progesterone levels from the past have always been fine ? So I am scared too much progesterone might be a bad thing ? Anyone any advise I would be greatful ?

@hopefullsosbry I had a completely natural FET last April that ended in a chemical. I’m about to have another natural FET in June and I have asked for progesterone pessaries this time. The consultant said as my periods are regular and I ovulate I don’t need them but he’s happy to prescribe me them if it makes me feel better mentally. He also said that progesterone levels wouldn’t have caused the chemical.

He said there’s no evidence to suggest adding pessaries helps things in a natural FET but it also wouldn’t hinder the outcome either at the dose I’m having ( 2 x 400mg cyclogest pessaries a day)

If I were you I’d phone them up and voice your concerns. That’s what they are there for. 😊 I’m just sharing what I’ve been told but this is for 2 x cyclogest pessaries, not the injections. I can’t see them prescribing you something that they thought would hinder your chances of having a successful FET though.

@amkw hi, thank you so much for reply! Yeh I think I will continue on the dose they recommend as I think it’s actually not that high, so I will trust the process and what you are saying has really put my mind at ease thank you, just don’t want to do the wrong thing and have another loss .. but yes it makes sense to try with progesterone as I haven’t before. I am sorry to hear youv had losses and wishing you all the best for your FET soon !! 💖✨

Ahh so exciting. Really hope you get your fresh transfer and EC goes well. ❤️

I will be getting my FET the end of June. I’ve worked out in my head it will be around w.c 24 June. So impatient now!

hopefullsosbry · 29/05/2024 15:48

@amkw Awh not long now for you ! Best of luck. 💖

Ellenn · 03/06/2024 22:56

@hopefullsosbry hey! I had 3 miscarriages following transfers and they recommended to try and add in pessaries plus lubion injections the same as you. I still miscarried the 3rd time with this level of progesterone but my 4th transfer was successful, when I queried checking levels my consultant said you can’t get too high levels? I hope you got your reassurance and transfer goes/went well x

hopefullsosbry · 03/06/2024 23:18

Hi, thanks for taking the time to reply.
