Hi everyone,
Bit of a long story but I had egg collection on Saturday, we are with Gennet Prague and I just turned 42.
We have a ds from a previous cycle 4 years ago. We then had two unsuccessful FETs from blasts left over from that one. Our DS was a 4AA embryo and in hindsight we were so lucky it worked first time.
Despite my age my AMH is good, 7.5 but I have silent endometriosis and am hypothyroid. So it’s been a bit of a journey to get my thyroid sorted and stable.
Unfortunately the egg collection did not go as planned as my right ovary was completely inaccessible because of adhesions previously unseen in scans. So the 6 mature follicles on that side were wasted 😢
I have had a laparoscopy before when we were ttc naturally but then moved onto IVF. I spoke to my gynaecologist here about having another one and he said it wasn’t necessary as my endo was mild and it could hurt my ovarian reserve before IVF. Because I have zero symptoms it honestly never occurred to me that I’d have so many adhesions.
They got 4 eggs from the left, and heard from the clinic today to say one egg had fertilised to become a Grade 1, 4 cell embryo. I am aware of the odds and drop off rate but am wondering if the high grade is a good indicator for blastocyst stage?
The other thing I am wondering and having read other threads is should I push for a Day 3 freeze assuming it is still a high grade tomorrow? I’ve asked the clinic about this twice now and they are fairly insistent that it is better to wait until Day 5. and that a day 3 might not defrost well etc. They also say they cannot PGTA test a day 3 embryo. The clinic have really pushed for this testing because of our two failed FETs and my age. I was eager to go along with it in order to mitigate several more potential failed FETs but now I don’t really see the imperative. If we are lucky enough and end up with a 5 day blast then I will probably go for PGTA but at the same I don’t see the absolute necessity. We have no genetic issues to screen for etc.
I was in Prague for a 7 days and got back today so a fresh day 3 transfer is not possible ( we had never considered a fresh transfer when booking flights and making plans as we were opting for PGTA) but I don’t know if I should push harder for a day 3 freeze?? And is there a point in PGTA if we only have a single embryo? The clinic are extremely fair minded in terms of extra add on tests only suggesting when needed rather than trying to sell so I am not worried from that point of view. But am slightly worried why they aren’t suggesting a Day 3 freeze and could it be because they are hoping to boost their own ranking etc?
sorry for the long post, xx
