Vaginal microbiome

Hi all

I'm new over here, back story is unexplained infertility. I fell pregnant two cycles after a HSG (no problems found but I feel like it flushed things out). Sadly had to terminate at 14 weeks due to T18 (Edwards Syndrome).

Four cycles on and I'm trying not to panic but also fretting I am running out of time - 40 in November.

One thing I feel that might be worth exploring is vaginal microbiome. I've had BV a couple of times. I sometimes experience itchiness - mostly during the night and around my period.

I don't know anything about this topic and I was wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction? I believe there are online companies which can do some tests but are they any good? Can my GP do anything? Is this the EMMA and ALICE test?

Since September I've been making my own ferments - variations on sauerkraut etc. I had IV antibiotics for suspected sepsis when I was delivered our TFMR baby.

I just feel like it's worth exploring but I don't know where to start. Thanks

@MrsScotland sorry to hear of your loss.

Ive recently heard screen me are good for microbiome tests and have ordered one myself - I’ve been through recurrent miscarriage and all NHS tests have come back normal.

If you use Instagram I’ve started following a fertility acupuncturist (Alex_explaininginfertility) who has lots of posts/info on this type of thing x

Thank you, I have followed her! I have thought about the screen me test, heard about it on a podcast. I wish the GP could do something but other than test for BV I don't know if they can offer anything else, does anyone know?

Also I'd be really keen to hear how you get on with the test, will you please let us know? Is it just a home self swab? Do they offer a follow up and treatment? Thanks!

@MrsScotland I’ve found GP avenues of testing are limited from my personal experience for things like this.

Yes happy to update you with how I get on..

Ive found a few fertility specialists online, so if I get any adverse results (that don’t feel like a straightforward antibiotic prescription I can take to my GP) I plan to book a consultation with one of them to hopefully sort it. All depends on the results I guess!

screen me do provide a report and offer a free consultation x

Hi. I know this is an old thread but wondering if either of you went through with this and whether it helped you conceive?
I've just done a microbiome test with screen me.

Hi there. I didn’t actually end up pursuing the testing as I found out I was pregnant a few days later. So grateful to now have my rainbow in my arms.
