ISCI cycle - 38 folicules

Hi, I have recently started my 1st IVF/ICSI cycle & have been injecting 150iu of Meriofert daily & started taking Fyremadel yesterday to stop premature ovulation. I had my day 6 scan this afternoon and had 28 follicles on my right ovary at 10 on my left. The nurse confirmed this is a very high number, especially so early into the meds & said I was at very high risk of OHSS. I'm going back on Wednesday for a further scan but the nurse confirmed it's 80% likely that I will now have to have a frozen transfer instead of a fresh & I'm so disappointed that this means delaying the process again :( other than my tummy feeling a little tender - I feel totally fine at the moment and want to do everything I can to have a fresh transfer.
Has anyone had a similar experience & have any tips / advice?
Thanks so much.

OHSS only really presents symptoms after egg collection so it’s impossible to tell by how you feel during stims.

i had to do a freeze all due to over reacting and risk of OHSS and I was exactly the same with being dissapointed as it just felt like another delay, but honestly it is for the best.

OHSS can make you really poorly and if you do over react to the stims your hormones will be too high for your body to accept & implant an embryo, and you’d rather know than have a precious embryo wasted.

Just try and see the positives - you have a lot of follicles which will hopefully produce lots of eggs and healthy embryos and you will be able to give your body chance to recover after egg collection for a couple of months before a FET.

Unfortunately ivf is full of so many push backs and hurdles that you don’t expect, but it is normal to be so dissapointed and frustrated when these do come along.

i hope your treatment goes well and if you do get OHSS it doesn’t knock you around too much 💕

I've been told I am high risk for OHSS as had 24 follicles on baseline scan. I understand anything more than 20 follicles is considered risky and will likely be a freeze all. You won't know until you've had egg collection and it's not pleasant to have. I've been told will have to wait 1 possibly 2 cycles for everything to settle before having an FET. I read on here about FET being better as your body is not in overdrive from all the stims. As PP said try and see the positives as disappointing as it is. Wishing you all the best 💕

Hey I had my first stim scan yesterday and they counted 33 follicles, they still upped my dosage of gonal f from 125iu to 150iu and I'm due to start cetrotide tomorrow morning and then my scan tomorrow morning too, they mentioned during my initial consultation about freezing all if too many but nothing was mentioned yesterday when he saw the number that was there! I had 17 on one side, 16 on the other! X

Back during my initial IVF in 2020 I had upwards of 40 follicles on egg collection day, with 25 eggs collected, and was told I’d need to do a freeze-all and wait for a FET. I ended up in A&E (was fine in the end) and had our FET the following cycle which resulted in my little girl.

I know it feels like it adds on more and more time but it is best to have a good environment in there to transfer one back into without your body fighting the OHSS and trying to implant an embryo. The success rates for fresh and frozen are now very very similar I believe so if you can try to really indulge in the self-care during the wait and prep for transfer.

Hope everything goes well over the next couple weeks X

Hi @ettc12344556 sorry to hear it’s a freeze all. It’s so frustrating. I was in the same situation two weeks ago. I had 39 eggs collected and at risk of OHSS. I was gutted to have to postpone again.
Saying that I was fine the week after EC and in so much pain the second week after. My ovaries were swollen, I got ovarian torsion that thankfully corrected itself. I was ok seated but I couldn’t walk for more than a minute without intense pain. My Drs were great but in hindsight I’m so glad I didn’t have my transfer.
My understanding is you might be fine after EC but if you got pregnant the resulting hormones would make everything a lot worse.
i know it seems disappointing now but in the long run definitely for the best and hopefully you don’t have to wait too long to FET.
