IVF glass ampoules / vials

Has anybody else struggled with these?

The first two we have broken were not clean snaps and I'm in such a worry about injecting glass. My husbands now watched loads of YouTube videos so hoping it will go smoother next time.

It seems so bizarre to me to use glass ampoules when we have to do it at home ourselves.

Use a piece of kitchen roll to hold around the top part. Face it with the dot towards you, put your hold it firmly with the tissue around it, and snap it away from you in one quick motion. It should snap cleanly without any shards. I think any shards would be too big to draw up into the needle anyway, but a bit of practice and you'll be fine!

In the box with your medication is there a random round plastic thing? I discovered it was for breaking the ampoules, you put it round the neck of the little bottle. But even then I had a few dramas. It does get easier but is a bit stressful!

I'm a nurse and they should provide you will filter needles anyway. We use them in the hospital for any glass ampules and it filters out any remnants of glass.
With advice to snapping the ampule it's confidence , do it fast and don't over think it if that makes sense. The slower you do it , the more it can shatter.
