EGG COLLECTION v follicles

Hi there,

I had my first IVF egg collection today. At my scans I had 40 follicles. I know that not all of those would contain an egg/mature egg, but they only retrieved 12 from me. I won’t know until tomorrow how many of those are mature. We are dealing with MFI.

Im new to this so maybe a bit naive, but to only have 12 eggs seems very little from 40 follicles. Can anyone please advise?

I would understand if the number of eggs that were mature dropped to 12, but 12 in total I was shocked. I was expected to over stimulate as I have a high AMH for my age and can’t help but feel disappointed 😓

I think that’s a good number. I only got 5 and by day 3 we only had one fertilised egg to use. Currently 20weeks pregnant with that one chance we had. Stay positive 12 is good.

@ACR7 hey! Thanks for reply. I’m so happy to have 12, I guess I just can’t help but feel a little disappointed and worried that about how many chances I’ll have in this round. My fault for having higher expectations.

that’s amazing - congrats 🥰🥰. I’m freeze all as was expected red to be high risk for OHSS so got probably an 8 week wait now before I can transfer.

@Heyjal can I ask did you clinic have an AMH or AFC cut off for freeze all? I had 30 follicles and AMH of 28 and I’m worried I may have to do a freeze all.

i understand it must be hard when you were expecting more but 12 is a great number and hopefully you will get multiple embryos from the 12!

@180monkeys I’m not sure what AMH level results in a freeze all but believe for my clinic it is 20+ follicles. My AMH is 26 and I had 24 follicles in my ovarian assessment report back in October. I was on antagonist GNRH protocol ( I think NHS it’s called short protocol?)

thanks, I really hope so 🤞🏻. Such a whirlwind of emotions going through this. Were doing ICSI as issue is my fiancés morphology.

@Heyjal aw it sounds like I‘ll possibly have to do a freeze all as well then. It just feels like one wait after another doesn’t it!

Were you on low dose stims? We’re doing ICSI for male factor as well

@180monkeys yeh was on 150 IU/L ovaleap and 0.2mg Ganirelix.

@180monkeys I was worried about the injections but honestly a wee ice pack on for a few mins before and I didn’t feel a thing. Was totally painless. If you’re on Ganirelix then keep the needle in there for a good 10 seconds after or it can feel a bit stingy but it’s really not painful.

10 were mature and 9 fertilised. Get another call on Monday 🤞🏻🤞🏻.

that’s a really get fertilisation rate! You will hopefully get a good number of embryos for freezing then!
