First IVF appointment at the end of Jan

Hi, and Happy New Year!

We have just found out we have our initial appointment with the IVF team at Sheffield at the end of January (NHS referral).

Huge shock as we weren’t expecting it so soon. I’ve read a few books and done lots of googling but just wondered if anyone had any advice on questions to ask, I’m really nervous and don’t want to forget anything.

I’m guessing from what I’ve read it’s more of a paperwork appointment, and they will just give us lots of information, but any advice would be appreciated.

We’ve been unsuccessfully TTC for 18 months, H2B (41) is type 1 diabetic and I’m 36.

Thanks in advance!

Hi! Im so so sorry to hear that @summerfootprint . How are you doing? I hope you're recovering well.
Im sorry your appointment was cancelled @Moralpaniccc .
We're waiting to go through our 3rd and final nhs round also with miss tamhankar. We moved to her from our previous consultant. We had 1 round in november last year, and 1 round in June. June we got pregnant but it ended in a chemical. Once you're in it can move very quickly.

summerfootprint · 08/08/2025 20:34

@GLizzie88thanks lovely. I’m ok, just trying to get more mobile now. It’s been rubbish but can see a bit more light at the end of the tunnel.
mum sorry to hear about your first 2 rounds, sending lots of love and positive vibes for your next one xxx

Oh @summerfootprint I’m so sorry to hear. I’m so glad that the liver tumours were caught!
I had a similarly rough year but with my thyroid.
I’m out of those woods and feel more positive- hope when you’re feeling better it’s the same for you in September!
@GLizzie88 sorry to hear about your rounds. Good luck for the next!
It looks like our timeframe is definitely a little bit longer than everyone else’s, but I’ll not give up hope that the next one is a better step. We’re supposed to be seeing Jonathan Skull who has given us no information re what to expect/upcoming processes, I don’t know Miss Tamankar … but like I said that appointment was cancelled and it looks like the June appointment will be October/November.
I’ve actually arranged a consultation at Manchester Fertility but they’ve instructed us to still pursue NHS help before we know what’s what. All of this delay is killing me when I know the chances of us conceiving without ICSI are unlikely due to my husbands 0.5% sample results.

Has anyone been referred from
rotherham hospital to Jessops and know rough timeframes that it took you to start treatment? Rotherham do the testing and HSG etc and refer you to Jessops or care.

Moralpaniccc · 17/08/2025 08:53

I don’t sorry ❤️
But I did want to jump on and ask anyone on this thread if they’ll fill in this short official survey to stop them reducing the IVF funding to 1 round instead of 2.
I didn’t realise that whilst I’ve been asking around if the years we’re waiting is normal, that by the time we’re seen we could only get 1 try- they’re reviewing until Oct.

How quickly does everything start from first appointment to treatment , got first app end of October since waiting from April and how quickly can they book HSG from first app, me and my partner have had all the tests prior, incl bloods, swabs, semen analysis, just waiting to book a HSG scan ?

I had my first appointment at the beginning of July - all tests like HSG etc done throughout august as you as you need them at certain times of cycle & then we have our appointment for treatment options and plan on Monday to look at if I need medication or if we go for ivf funding It all depends which trust you’re under 🙂

BettyA13 · 01/10/2025 17:25

as far as we are aware it’s me - he has no issues. When we go to the treatment plan Monday they’ll tell us any issues they’ve found but the HSG was all clear & my ultrasounds were fine from what she said on the day I had them. Just looked I’ve no idea how to message on here but message me X

BettyA13 · 02/10/2025 07:45

I have private messaged you 😄

BettyA13 · 07/10/2025 20:46

We were also GP referred in April 25 but just had our initial f-2-f appointment which was supposed to be in two weeks at Jessops cancelled. We’ve now had to move to November with a telephone appointment as it’s quicker than waiting for another f2f. We’ve have 0 idea what is going on, what to expect or anything as no one will tell us anything. We’ve had all our tests, swabs, scans, semen analysis etc done already for our referral. Will we have to have them all done again? We’re confused as to why we’re going to gynae first rather than assisted conception.

Did you have the hsg done? I think before you go straight to assisted they want you to try medication. I went to my treatment plan f2f on Monday and because of finding endo they offered to do funding for ivf at Jessops straight away or said you can try medication first which is what they usually reject people for the funding for. It may be they want you to do letrozole or clomid first?

BettyA13 · 08/10/2025 21:06

Yeah I know, I have been kept out of the loop to be honest they don’t tell me anything other than it’s a long waiting list and got to wait for an appointment but yeah gynae is for yours and partners PMH and current history and funding and all that

Ahh thank you! I’m unsure what hsg is?
In my head I feel like I need medication to help us but who knows. Thank you for sharing your experience so far. It’s taken me 6months to find this little forum. X

♥️ thank you for sharing!!!! Honestly the amount of times I’ve phoned Jessops to be told I’m not in the system to there’s been no referral is unbelievable.
what I’ve learnt from here in the last hour is more than what I’ve found out in the whole process so far from the experts. 🙈

BettyA13 · 08/10/2025 21:38

I’ve also phoned so many times aswell and got told the same thing and then for them to say oh yeah we do have it, such an emotional rollercoaster🤣 I can appreciate it is a long waiting list but they don’t tell you what to expect which would be reassuring for all of us

E89 · 08/10/2025 21:42

i understand the waiting lists too and the process they go through. However they’ve been telling me it’s a 12 week waiting list since April that I’ve now resorted to tell them I’m 6months into their 12 week waiting list but thanks for letting me know. 🤣

BettyA13 · 08/10/2025 21:48

Oh really I got told 26 weeks straight away so I knew I was waiting a long time, so have you got an appointment yet or not and have you got a consultant yet

E89 · 08/10/2025 21:54

We were meant to have an appointment two weeks today but it’s been cancelled due to whoever we were seeing having to cover in theatre. We now have an appointment at beginning of November with another consultant. Hoping when we finally have our appointment that some light is shed. It’s all driving me crazy, my MH is all over the place.

BettyA13 · 08/10/2025 22:03

Right I see, it’s all very stressful and overwhelming isn’t it I will let you know what my first appointment is like it’s over the phone!

Moralpaniccc · 09/10/2025 14:14

I hope you both end up having a better experience at Jessops than us ❤️
We still haven’t had our last appointment that should have been in July- it’s not even booked in.
In our May appointment we were expecting a plan of action to be told ‘We’ll send you for an AMH test to see how long you can be kept waiting’
And here I am. We were supposed to be seen in July to discuss that blood result (and I presume get an idea of what’s going to happen) but they moved it to September, then cancelled it mid August and couldn’t book us back in (for November onwards)… I rang weekly and now I’ve given up.
We’re in a lucky position where we could take out a loan, and are now under Manchester Fertility. Had my injections/medication delivered last week- it’s all happened so quickly.
Im sorry you’re waiting and in limbo, the lack of control was driving me mad and all I heard from others was positive stories about how quickly they were helped at Jessops, so I felt like it was just us being punished by some higher power (and I’m atheist ha) further on top of infertility… stay strong and don’t let it impact you mentally like it did me ❤️❤️
