Dosing with leftover stims anyone?

Ok I know this isnt the ideal way to use stims but in desperation I am doing this anyway and wondered if anyone had any thoughts/experience/advice.

I had 600IU of Perguveris leftover in a 900IU pen, from my failed 3rd round in October. I am taking a break from IVF and I think i will go back to GONAL if i do another round next year so this pen in the fridge was really meant to go in the bin. I thought, what if, i just inject it as part of my natural cycle this month. I thought I'd do 6 days x 100IU but because I've finally decided to do this late (day 4 of cycle today!), i decided to do 3 days x 200IU. My follicular phase is quite long anyway and rarely ovulate before day 17 so think risk of early ovulation is low.

Am i being mad? What can really go wrong? The pen says the thing expires in 28 days from opening so what i'm injecting is probably expired anyway and pointless. Also, i have started on day 4 rather than day 2 so if it has not expired, its unlikely ill be stimulating lots of follicles anyway (I usually am on 300IU x 14 days and this is just 200IU x 3 days). Am I being crazy and should I stop? Anyone done anything like this and if yes, what happened?

@CDiamond hello! I realise you posted on Wednesday so not sure whether you went ahead with this or not. I totally get the desire to try anything - we did 9 cycles of IVF/treatment and it is a hard road.

I definitely wouldn't do this however and if you have started I think you should stop. The potential risks are of OHSS (ovarian hyper stimulation syndrome) which can be dangerous. These are powerful drugs and need a doctor to supervise.

But even if you didn't end up with any negative issues, I can't see any real advantages. In theory what will happen is that you will stimulate your ovaries to grow more eggs more quickly but without taking cetrotide, you are likely to just ovulate when the largest gets to a certain point. The others would be lost. Even if more than one egg was released, I'm not sure that there is any advantage to having more than one egg present - multiple pregnancy presents higher risks.

I really hope that the treatment works out for you but I think you should hold off from doing this xxx

@Janefx40 thank you for your reply! Indeed i had no responses and I'm afraid i did go ahead and take the 600IU over 3 days (3 shots of 200IU). In my previous IVF cycle, I was on 300IU for 15 days so this is just c. 14% of what i would have taken in an actual IVF cycle, so I thought no harm could really come of it. What I am seeing though is that I havent tracked an ovulation yet - I have been tracking with pee sticks since day 10 and I usually ovulate around day 17 or 18 but this time I havent ovulated as yet as of day 20. Its causing a late or no ovulation this cycle is my guess; or it caused a mega early ovulation which has gone waste as we werent having sex prior to day 10!

In the off chance I have ovulated properly but that it hasnt been picked up, I doubt there will be risk of multiple pregnancy.. i have taken 14% of the typical stims dose of an IVF cycle and I tend to have no viable embryos even on proper IVF cycles.

Thank you for your message though!!
