Poor Quality Embryo

Im over 40 so that’s never a good start is it! In my 20s and early 30s I was naive enough to think that when I decided I was ready for children it would just happen! I got married at 36 and came off the pill straight away. A year later we conceived naturally but I had a MMC at around 7 weeks (found out at the ‘12 week’ scan!). We started trying again but nothing happened so eventually we started IVF. Over the course of 3 rounds of IVF we have found that I have a thyroid issue so I’m on tablets for that, and an immunity issue so I’m on steroids for that. But so far the only result has been further MMCs and several MVAs to end the pregnancies. We made the choice to go one more time and today was transfer day. Despite collecting 14 eggs, by today we were down to 5 and only 3 viable. We transferred one which is a 4CC grade so I’m already convinced it won’t come to anything and I’ll be back to booking an MVA again.

There’s not much point to this post other than hoping there are some success stories out there for 4CC embryos that went on to be actual babies!?!

Urgh this whole process is so horrible!!

Hi @kittycat581 I haven't got first hand experience of the embryo but would be interested to hear of experiences as I'm due to transfer soon abs I have thyroid antibodies (but thyroid levels appear normal). Have you been on steroids?

Sunflower360 · 29/11/2023 00:04

@kittycat581 also sorry to hear about your MMC's, this journey is so tough

Have you ever had a progesterone test on transfer day? I believe it made all of her difference to my third transfer as I was given extra drugs x

I’ve had progesterone pessaries and injections with my last 2 ivf rounds, as well as aspirin and injectable blood thinners.

The steroids are because of hyper immunity not thyroid-I’m on levothyroxine for that.

@kittycat581 good. Was just an idea. I also had steroids and blood thinners as well as lubion. Good they are looking into all aspects.

I also had endometrium issues so had a full era screen.

So sorry you've got through all of that, it's heartbreaking isn't it.
Have you had any of the embryos or losses tested?
We had 6 miscarriages and then IVF with PGT to ensure we had healthy embryos to place back in which luckily worked 2 years ago x

I transferred a 3cc and a 5bc , obviously can't say which one worked but I'm 7 weeks.
There's hope for 'poor' quality blasts as they told us we had very low odds that our embryos would implant so we stuck both in
