How to take progesterone?

I've been prescribed progesterone to take from 3dpo onwards
They are gel capsules and when I asked the doctor how to take them she just said whatever I feel comfortable with?

What is the most effective method, oral, vaginal or rectal?

Hello, your doctor should provide proper instructions. I am only familiar with cyclogest (have also been prescribed utrogestan but not used them yet). I take them vaginally, like using a tampon and pushing it as deep as possible comfortably. I have read that some prefer to to take them rectally - I personally don't like the greasy bottom feeling 😅). Not heard of orally but maybe a different type/brand? Hope this helps.

Defo check which one you've been as very few can be taken orally. Personally the only option for me was vaginally. I did four rounds of ivf.

What is the name of your progesterone

I had cyclo and utro. The utro came with applicators which made life way easier x

I take my cyclogest rectally as then there’s no mess.

I've taken cyclogest from the front and it was a MESS and not the easiest. I was suggested rectally by a friend and it was quick, easy and very comfortable.. your bottom will kinda suck it up from a certain point, and then no mess and you wont even know. All the best x

It depends which brand of progesterone you have, but your clinic should also be advising you.

Mine were happy for cyclogest to be used rectally but said utrogestan had to be used vaginally. I got some utrogestan in the UK and some in Spain. In the UK if comes with applicators as @CR7 says. In Spain it doesn’t come with applicators and the box says for oral or vaginal use (but oral use wouldn’t usually be recommended for IVF).
I actually found the applicators more of a faff and didn’t use them.
