Argh feeling very deflated today. Have been battling for 2 years using clomid, just started my first round of IVF as we've not been successful so far, and everything has been fine but just been for a scan today after last week being on track for egg retrival towards the end of this week, to now there not being enough follicle growth and talk of cancelling this cycle, am absolutely devastated.

Had my bloods done and waiting on the nurse to call me to advise if I need to up my dose of menopur again, or cancel. Literally cannot focus on anything and just wanna curl up and cry!

Any experience of this for anybody else that might give me some hope for the potential of this cycle or future ones? for context I've been diagnosed with PCOS and have a high AMH.

@cbear1989 sorry to hear this . Hopefully the situation can get back on track with upping the meds.
Sometimes it's just about finding the right protocol / dose also.
It's very frustrating when your told your likely to over respond if anything because of the amh with pcos but don't respond well in the end

Thanks @MoonlightDreamer, I'm home alone trying to focus on working and needed a release so appreciate you responding :) the waiting and disappointment is awful, emotional side is a million times worse than anything physical for sure. Am sure tomorrow will be a better day but today just feeling very sad.

@cbear1989 exactly the same thing happened to me on my first try. Had unexplained infertility, on paper my AMH etc looked fine so they started me on a lose dose. First 7 days the follicles were growing as they should, however by the next scan which I think was maybe 2/3 days later there had been no growth so upped the meds, however, at that point it was too late and that round was cancelled as the third scan showed no movement from the first scan. Like you, I was absolutely devastated, no matter how much you prepare yourself your never ready for bad news. I felt that I had failed at the very first hurdle.

The following month we tried again and the increased dosage was better suited for me. You will find that with IVF its all trial and error (the nurses words to me), what works for one person doesn't necessarily work for another.

I went through 2 collections and 4 transfers, currently 19 weeks pregnant. Don't lose hope, anything is possible. Good luck :)

@SH998 that's lovely to hear, thank you!!! think I maybe need to start accepting that this isn't my time, as you guys probs understand it can be hard going into another Christmas not pregnant but it obviously wasn't meant to be right now. Hopefully I'll have more luck next time. Thank you though, I feel a lot better!! xxx

@cbear1989 I really do know how that feels, 7 years we were trying and every Christmas and birthday without a child used to bring me right down, to the point I didn't want to celebrate special occasions. I've just turned 40 and I swear it was the best birthday I've ever had being pregnant. Your time will come, be kind to your body and try to stay positive. Miracles do happen :)

@SH998 Aww that's so lovely!! Thank you I needed to hear this today xxxx

So confusing.. just heard from the nurses. The doctor is actually pretty happy with my bloods as my estrogen has climbed loads to over 2000 since Friday which is positive so she thinks maybe my follicles are just slow to grow... so guess I'm not completely out yet but probs best not to get my hopes up! Next scan weds and told to carry on with my current dosage so will see what happens I guess...

@cbear1989 you will get there, unfortunately it takes time which some of us panic about if older, I know I did. Hearing positive stories wouldn't make you feel any better as you want this now but it will come in time when your body is ready for it. All the best for your journey and good luck :)

Hey guys. Hope you're all okay?

Just been for my follow up scan and I now have three eggs that could potentially be good to go at 20, 18 & 16 and a lining of 12.1mm... Still lots of too small ones though. Plus one at about 13-14ish mm.

The nurse basically said they'll call me later once my bloods are in and she's discussed with the doctor, but potentially I could still go for egg retrieval this Friday.

What a bloody emotional rollercoaster this journey is eh... I think I'm happy to be guided by the doctor and am so happy with the sudden growth spurt considering my largest follicle was 14mm on Monday but also conscious that we get one funded NHS cycle so torn on whether to give it a go or cancel. What would you do? Guess I'm just after a bit of a sounding board before I get my call later! xx

@cbear1989 I totally get it. I only had one funded nhs round aswell and it puts alot of pressure on you mentally and physically that it goes well.
I ended up with 3 embryos but only 2 made it to blast. Unfortunately they were absolutely rubbish quality so I opted for a double transfer. I'm currently 4dp5dt but not filled with much hope

cbear1989 · 01/11/2023 13:33

bless you @MoonlightDreamer , have everything crossed that you get some good news soon - you never know!!

Thanks for the response though, anxiously awaiting my call and then may have a decision to make unless the doctor tells us they'd recommend cancelling. xx

So doctor has recommended abandoning this cycle as we should get more eggies if we try again. They're gonna start me off on a higher dosage next time so onwards and upwards! xx
