Hi all. I have been diagnosed with PCOS today and it's knocked me for six. I'm went to the GP as I'm having irregular periods and it's making TTC really difficult and she sent me for the internal ultrasound. I didn't expect it at all as I have none of the 'common' symptoms. I'm absolutely terrified that I'm not going to be able to conceive. Being 31 I already worry about my age etc. I'm going to join slimming world this week to try and get rid of some excess weight and do whatever I can. Basically what I'm asking for is some stories from people/advice. I don't know anyone personally with PCOS so I'm finding it hard to know where to turn.

Thanks all x

At 31 your considered very young.
Pcos itself isn't a case for infertility.
It's just the things that go hand in hand with pcos that make it difficult but for the majority of women that's easily overcame with lifestyle changes / medication which can help regulate your period.
The biggest problem with pcos Is not ovulating. There are medications that can induce ovulation.
I was in the same position. I had no periods and was struggling for many years with no solution.
If your overweight , definitely aim to lose the weight. Once I got my bmi to 30 I started having periods and ovulating on my own. I even achieved a pregnancy on my 37th birthday but miscarried.
How long have you been trying ? Are you eligible to be referred yet? In my area it needs to be 2 years.
While I don't have a success story , I know many women with pcos and getting pregnant hasn't been an issue or was easily over came. I on the other hand am dealing with other issues besides pcos which has affected me getting pregnant. Suspected endo had damaged one of my tubes and we have male factor infertility on top. Unfortunately ivf was the route for us and im due to have my transfer tomorrow.
Trust me, at 31 youd be a spring chicken in the fertility clinic.
Take it easy, look into options and don't be hard on yourself

Thank you for the message. Yeah I’m really going to try and lose weight, it does make sense why I have found it so hard to lose weight in the past. I do have periods but they can be a 40 day cycle, 80 day cycle etc so it’s hard to know when/if I’m ovulating. I think it’s just such a big shock and it’s scared me so much. Having a baby is all I’ve ever wanted, as I’m sure most people on here have! I don’t think I’ll be referred for a while, the first option round here seems to be tablets and then it goes from there. I’m sorry to hear your struggles. Good luck with IVF I really hope it’s successful for you and you get your happy ever after x
