Explain to me day 3 vs day 5 transfer

Hoping someone can explain me
So from my understanding some poeple have either a day 3 or day 5 transfer
What is the benefit of either?
I've read day 5 is a full blast and helps embryologist to Identify the best one on day 5 but it also means some may arrest trying to take them on to day 5 ..
So therefore they put them in day 3 rather than risk it. I'm wondering what is the purpose of this. Surely you'd be better identifying the better quality blasts than putting in a day 3 not knowing if it will even make it to blast stage on day 5.
Is there a scientific reason behind this.?
I'm just confused now it works really and hoping someone can help explain it to me so I can understand.
I currently have 3 embryos. They said if we make it to Friday they will transfer one on day 3 and if one is doing better than the other they would transfer on day 5.
Is it just to make the patient feel like at least they've had a transfer?

I had a 3dt. The nurse explained to me that the 5 day can often show which is the best quality. By 3 days I only had two fertilised and one was doing much better than the other so the decision was made. I would have the 3 day transfer and if the other made it to day 5 it would be frozen. It didn’t make it. I am currently 7weeks pregnant with the 3 day transfer. I think statistically 5 day transfers have a slightly higher success rate probably because they have identified the best option by waiting but it is only a slight difference and clearly 3 day transfers still work. I’ve never heard of them putting another in 2 days later though as they were just going to freeze my other. I’m sure they know what they’re doing though.

It all depends on how many embryos you have. The more you have, the more can be “gambled” with to see if they make it to day 5.

My last cycle only produced 1 so they froze it on day 3..

Also, I read somewhere that the womb is the best environment for 3-day old embryos so it is a chance if numbers are low.

@JadeAC You are giving me some hope :)
