Egg Quality

Hello all

We're on our first round of IVF after 3 years of trying and being stuck in the 'unexplained' category. I had egg collection on Wednesday and they got 14 eggs of which 10 were fertilised. We got the call today on day 3 to say we have 4 good, 2 average and 4 poor quality. I'm not sure if this good or not? I've tried googling everywhere but can't seem to get much information.. as it's our first round I have no idea what to expect! Whatever we get will be frozen as I have 43 follicies prior to egg collection and they put me at a high risk of OHSS

You have 10 embryos on day 3 from 14 eggs? That's a fantastic result. Will your clinic continue cultivating them until day 5? There can be quite a drop off between day 3 and day 5, so just prepare yourself for that. Although on my last round I had 3 on day 3 and all were still going on day 5, so no one can accurately predict these things!

But right now, I'd say you should be absolutely delighted with that result

Thank you both for your kind messages, I really appriciate it. I have no idea what to expect on numbers or anything and googling was giving me all sorts of conflicting things! I think because the lady on the phone sounded quite downbeat and almost apologetic I assumed the worst. I didn't anticipate this much of a rollercoaster of emotions...

Yes they're cultivating until day 5 so we will find out Tueaday ehatcwe have for the big freeze :)

@countrypunk thanks for checking in that's so kind! We've got 4 that made it through to be frozen :) so we are very happy with that! Hoping to have a few weeks of relaxing a bit and being relatively hormone normal before our first FET x
