IVF cycle got cancelled

Hi all,

After 2 years of trying to have a baby, after 2 miscarriages and being rejected from NHS IVF (very low AMH 0.7 at 34), we have decided to give natural modified IVF a go at Create St Paul's.

This month, I did the first set of injections, the scans and the blood tests. I was meant to have the egg collection today for most likely 1 egg but it got cancelled while I was on on the operating table with my legs up. This was due to having a blood vessel right in front of my dominant ovary. The doctor gave me a 50% chance of injuring me if we went ahead and he also said that he doesn't feel comfortable with doing it with that risk.

Has anyone had that happen to them? I feel devastated and frustrated how difficult this process is.

I'm so sorry, no advice or helpful experience but currently on my first IVF cycle and can only imagine how difficult this must be for you. Didn't want to read and not send a virtual hug ❤

Thank you so much. I really hope your cycle goes well. I will keep all my fingers crossed for you! :-)

Isn't it crazy how the process of having a baby feels like a super advanced obstacles course that you don't even know if you'll get to the end.

Not happened to me but a similar thing happened to a Colleague and she was injured. I know it must be incredibly frustrating but I think sipping the procedure was the right call Flowers

@Lenlen89 thank you so much, all went well with collection and fertilised eggs are frozen.

How are you feeling now? Have you been able to discuss next steps with the consultant? I really hope this was just a horribly unlucky thing that happened and isn't likely to reoccur ❤

@SunsetsAndSandwiches glad your procedure went well and you got your eggs frozen, that's great! 🙂

I am now onto another cycle hopefully doing my egg collection next week. This cycle, they have been monitoring the blood vessels around my ovaries so much more and considering whether they would have access to my follicles during the egg collection. I am hoping for the best.

@Lenlen89 sorry to read that this happened to you. I’ve had cancelled cycles but not for that reason. I know chances are small but if you were hoping to collect one egg and gets cancelled can you do the trigger shot and try naturally? Just in case it happens again (obviously hope it doesn’t, good luck).

SunsetsAndSandwiches · 14/11/2023 00:22

@Lenlen89 good luck with this cycle, it sounds positive that they are monitoring you more closely this time. Keeping everything crossed for you

@LongerthanMrTicklesarms @SunsetsAndSandwiches
Thank you both!! We tried naturally during the cancelled cycle but without luck. BUT I had another egg collection earlier this week and got 1 egg collected. I am also happy to say that the egg turned to a good quality embryo and was frozen on day 5. I know it is just one embryo but we were hoping for at least something like this anyway with my fertility situation and also because we are doing natural modified IVF which doesn't aim to get many eggs. Now, will do 2 more cycles so let's see if we get more eggs. Either way, I am feeling happy so far. 🙂

Hope you both are doing well?
