IVF- second round, chances of success?

Hi

I've recently come out of a failed round of IVF where only one egg was retrieved (second egg was actually just a shell, no egg inside). That egg was fertilised and all looked promising at day 3 when the embryo was transferred. Unfortunately it didn’t implant.

in worried given my low number of follicles last time that the consultant won’t recommend we go ahead with a second cycle. We’re meeting them next month to discuss next steps.

Anyone else had success on subsequent rounds when egg count has been low previously?

The first cycle can be a bit trial and error so please don't lose faith after one tricky one. I also think there's a lot of disinformation about how many eggs/embryos are normal. At my clinic 2/3 of cycles where there's a transfer there is nothing to freeze. So your situation although truly heart wrenching is definitely not a gloomy scenario.

My first cycle on the short protocol was cancelled as had 2 dominant follicles at day 7. So far this time on the long protocol I have 6 follicles and off down regulation and into stims so I am keeping my fingers crossed. No one has said there is an issue and this seems particularly normal (I always try to remember that if everything was rosy we wouldn't be at a fertility clinic!!! 🤣). There are also clinics that specialise in getting fewer better quality eggs for those who don't respond very well to stims, I think there's a thread about it, the clinic is called Create. Sending you all the baby dust x

Thank you for your message @TheFanciestPants !

yes I only had two dominant follicles but they went ahead and managed to get my one egg, I was on the highest amount of stims medication too.

thanks for your words of hope, I’ll try to keep my fingers crossed and hope they reccomend we go for another round.

I also think I could do better in terms of diet, relaxation etc for next time round and I might try acupuncture too, I’ll try anything!

:-)

@KDwasJ definitely each 1% tweak helps. My acupuncturist is amazing, I recommend finding someone really experienced, it doesn't even hurt when she pops the needles in ❤️. I find it makes a real difference (my blood pressure and sleep are better since I started) and apparently it's most important to have before embryo transfer so if I get that far i will definitely have a special session.
To be honest, I feel my clinic could have done way better (my cycle is short and always has been so the dominant follicles early on should have been avoided!) so I am trying not to blame myself and remain hopeful!
I'd also recommend having a general health check, my protein was towards the bottom of the range so I have been following the ARGC recommendations of a litre of milk a day.
Always remember it's quality over quantity and your one egg did make an embryo, just need to find the right one xxx

Hi OP my first round was a disaster. My AMH was 13.4 and I was told to expect about 10 eggs. I got 5 follicles and only 3 eggs. 1 Embryo (3BC) at Day 5 transferred which failed.
They thought I was a poor responder it was that bad compared to what they expected, but actually I just needed to change my drugs and significantly increase the dose.
My second round I got 10 eggs, 4 blastocysts (5AB, 4AB, 4BB and 3BC). First one failed as I put the lowest quality one in as I wasn't happy with my lining thickness, but my FET the following month was successful and I'm 16 weeks. X

Honestly girls, I just had a failed round of IVF. 28 folicals, 20 fertilised, 15 blastoscyst and 9 to day 5 , all 5AA to 4AB and it still failed💔. Not sure how to cope with the loss, we are heartbroken. Any tips to keep going?
