Hi just wondering if anyone has any advice? Not sure on anyone that has had IVF or ISCI or even anyone that’s been in the same kind of situation so unsure of what to do or my next steps are.

I went for fertility treatment in the RFC Belfast this year. I had my egg retrieval and called the following day to see how they got on after ICSI fertilisation. 5 survived. I called back on day 3 and they stated that all 5 were still there but only 2 were making progress. I was told to come up on say 5 for transfer. On day 5 I was making my way up the road and they rang to say that I had one egg that was nearly at blast stage. But not quite there and I would have a day 6 transfer instead but to come for a chat first before transfer.

I arrived to the clinic expecting none to have survived and spent the whole 5 days blaming myself and my body. Anyway. I arrived and the clinic and they brought me in for the chat before my transfer to tell me that on day 1/2 they noticed something foreign (or as he called it. Crumbs) in the dishes but failed to tell me any of this when I was calling up. They stated they had sent whatever was in the dishes for testing and it came back clear and sent me anyway for my transfer as I was one good quality egg at blast stage (only two eggs weren’t affected). I had my transfer around 6pm and was sent on my merry way not thinking too much into it glad that I had something.

fast forward to day 5 after transfer I got my positive (too early to be testing I know but I couldn’t wait). Day 10 I started bleeding heavily passing clots etc and had really bad cramping. Day 12 arrived and I was still testing positive on pregnant tests so sent my results to RFC they told me to retest once bleeding stopped and I did. I was still pregnant.

my 7 week scan arrived then after. We went in for our scan and didn’t get good news. I was measuring 6 days behind and the nurse scanning me told my I was going to miscarry as baby had a slow heartbeat. Because of this I asked her about the egg contamination as I’m calling it and I’m unsure what else to call it. I wasn’t given that great of an explanation to begin with. She said to me “oh you’re one of those”. She then went on to explain that there was other couples involved with the contamination and it wasn’t just us. She then explained that she hasn’t met anyone from the contamination as of then. So I’m unsure if anyone had any successful transfers. Because we were so upset she left the room when she arrived back she told me that because my transfer was so late that I would get another go, free.

anyway. Fast forward. My pregnancy went well although I was still measuring behind. I spent the whole time stressed and worrying about everything unable to enjoy my pregnancy because I was told I was going to miscarry. I reached 18 weeks and discovered I had a missed miscarriage.
I guess the nurse was right.

probably too much detail but I literally haven’t any knowledge in any of this and I’m hoping one of you would be able to point me in the direction of my next steps? This is still very fresh so I’m not looking to start anything straight away. I’ve just been left with no advice or any idea on what to do next.

thank you in advance x

I'm sorry to hear of your loss.
I can't offer much with regards to advice but I'm horrified reading this as I'm due to have a collection with them in 2 weeks time.
Have you received any further clarification about this contamination?
To be honest if that was me I'd probably be seeking legal advice

Thank you. And sorry if it’s put any sort of doubt into your mind. I’d imagine that the chances of this happening are very slim. So please don’t let this put you off or anything.

I haven’t heard anything from RFC since my 7 week scan which would be 6 months now. just not sure what to do now.
