Early pregnancy test after ICSI

Hello
This is my first round of ICSI and I am going out of my mind in the 2ww.
I just ordered a clear blue - the 6 days early one.
I am due my period next Thursday so was thinking I could do the test Saturday morning?
Has anyone else experience of this test and testing early. Does it work the same with ICSI pregnancies (might be a stupid question!) or am I likely to get a false reading?
I'm so torn as I couldn't bare a negative result but am so desperate to do a test and find out!
Thanks so much for any advice you have!

How many days post transfer are you? Your period isn't really "due" in the same way after IVF/ICSI as you should be on luteal support which will delay it.

Diamond1985 · 21/09/2023 15:58

Thank you for your response!
I had my transfer on Sunday. I'm currently taking Lubion twice per day, Progynova three times a day, Arovi once a day and Cyclogest twice per day

Hmm, so Saturday would be 6dpt. I have certainly heard of people having positives at that point but also of people who were negative then and got a positive on 8 or 9dpt. I think it will depend on how you'd feel if it was negative, knowing it might still go positive?

In my experience most people don't get their periods at all when on the medication, although sometimes it happens.

Diamond1985 · 21/09/2023 16:23

Ahh okay I didn't realise that. I've literally just been told to take a pregnancy test 2 weeks after transfer as long as I don't see my period beforehand. Oh I just don't know what to do for the best, just so anxious, I'm literally googling every little thing. I got a cold the day after transfer and managed to get google to tell me it was an early sign of pregnancy but in reality it's probably 'just a cold' lol. I've tried to remain as practical as possible the whole way through, now I'm just the opposite and going a bit crazy!

I understand how you feel! It's awful. I got a chemical pregnancy my first time (tested 11 days post transfer) so now I've decided I'm just going to leave things the full two weeks because that was so painful. At least if you test at 14 days and it's positive, you know it's a real positive!

Diamond1985 · 22/09/2023 10:11

Yes, that's so true. The disappointment after thinking it was a positive must have been heartbreaking. How many cycles have you been through and what was your fertility issues if you don't mind me asking?
I had to have a bilateral Salpingectomy before treatment as both tubes were completely useless! I had two embryos transferred (graded b+) but I just don't feel anything, the last day or so I have had a gut feeling that it hasn't worked, prior to that I was really positive. It's such an emotional rollercoaster, It must be constantly on my mind, even when i'm sleeping as since transfer I've not had a full night of uninterrupted sleep, I'm up at like 3am wide awake! I read some people's stories and think, wow, they must be so strong going through this process multiple times - I'm not sure I can do this all over again!

I'm a bit of a weird one. We always knew we would have to have assisted reproduction because my husband is intersex and doesn't produce sperm, but I thought I was fine! As it turns out, I have low AMH and endometriosis, so I had one round, got one blastocyst, chemical pregnancy, and then I had surgery to have the endo removed. Went to round two, got three blastocysts so that was better. Had one fresh transfer, BFN. Now waiting for FET.

Honestly I think the best thing you can do is not symptom spot. What helps me is looking at the NHS website where it basically says that in a natural pregnancy, most people don't start getting symptoms of any kind until at least 5 weeks. So I think anything we feel in the TWW is just the drugs, which mimic what happens in pregnancy anyway. Last time I had all the symptoms going peeing a lot, sore boobs, excess saliva, cramps and BFN.

@Diamond1985 I tested positive on the evening of 5dp5dt, however, it was faint. Good luck :)

Diamond1985 · 22/09/2023 11:03

@girljulian - thank you so much for sharing your story and insight it's so good to speak with women going through the process, sometimes you just end up feeling so alone, my partner tries but he doesn't really get it - everything was fine in his department so I just feel like all responsibility lies with me and it's a lot of pressure!

@SH998 - that's great. How far along are you now?

@Diamond1985 thank you, I'm 13 weeks tomorrow, my official '12 week' scan is on Monday. Its been a long, tough process so I sympathise with you all. No matter how hard the men try they just don't understand like us women do. It is a lonely process but I found these forums really helped me.

I didn't have any symptoms in the 2 week wait, they do say that pregnancy symptoms are similar to the symptoms you get from the progesterone so try not to symptom stop too much.

Good luck to you all :)

Diamond1985 · 25/09/2023 17:24

@SH998 hope the scan went well today!

So I've tested several times over the last few days and I'm getting positive results and each time the line is getting slightly darker. Fingers crossed!!

@Diamond1985scan was great thanks, baby was active but they couldn’t get the measurements to carry out the syndromes test 😥.

That’s great news, massive congrats. I bet your over the moon and living on cloud 9 x

Hey, just wanted to tell you I got a BFP too! Lucky thread!

@SH998 so what happens when they can't perform the tests? Do they book you back in soon to try again or do you have to wait until next scan??

OP posts:
SH998 · 28/09/2023 11:07

@Diamond1985 nope, they couldn't rebook as the baby was measuring 3 days ahead so it made me 13 weeks 5 days and apparently they can only test until 13 weeks 6 days (no availability for the next day). Therefore unless I pay £400 for the NIPT tests I wouldn't be tested for Edwards or Patau's, they advised its extremely rare.

They will now carry out a Quad test on week 16 to test for Down's. I think then if that comes back high risk they will then preform the NIPT test themselves at week 20.

That being the case they really shouldn't arrange scans so late in week 13, if your scan date falls on week 13 I would advise calling to push sooner.

How you feeling anyway?

@girljulian massive congrats to you :)

Diamond1985 · 28/09/2023 14:56

How silly to book it that late in the day if they can't do it past a certain timeframe 🙄
Thanks for the heads up I'll keep that in mind!

I'm feeling fine - no different really - hoping that's a good thing! 😊

Diamond1985 · 27/10/2023 14:42

Hey, hope all is well and everything is progressing nicely. I have my early scan tomorrow morning and was wondering if any of you knew how they perform this? Is it another internal or can they just do the normal ultrasound on the belly this early?
Just want to go in prepared! Bloody hate internal examinations 😭

OP posts:
SH998 · 27/10/2023 14:53

@Diamond1985 congratulations, I bet your super excited. My viability scan I was 8+2, it was an internal. I went for a private scan at 10+2 and they done a belly scan. As it was a private scan I don’t think they would have done an internal.
How far along are you?

Diamond1985 · 27/10/2023 14:56

Yep. Excited but nervous 😬
I'll be 8+3 so looks like an internal then! 😫

@Diamond1985 yes I would say so but the images are so much clearer. Good luck and enjoy every moment of it.
