Do they measure every follicle?

I am on round 3 of IVF and I have changed clinic for my 3rd round.

At my old clinic they measured most of the follicles and were really open and transparent about showing us the scans. My new clinic (Chelsea and Westminster) don’t let me watch the screen and my follicle numbers are a lot lower this round.

Do some clinics only measure the biggest follicles to save time or am I kidding myself and I just have less follicles this round?

(I know it’s wishful thinking :/ )

On both of my collections they measured every follicle, I left the room knowing roughly how many there were and estimated sizes. They never offered me to see the screen but I don't think this would have been an issue had I asked.

Lower follicles doesn't mean anything, I was on the same meds for both collections but outcomes were very different;

1st collection
14 follicles collected
8 fertilized
4 made day 3 blastocyst
2 made day 5 blastocyst

2nd collection
8 follicles collected
8 fertilised
8 made day 3 blastocyst
5 made day 5 blastocyct

In my case it was lower follicles but what appeared to be better quality (none were tested).

Good luck :)

Hi!

Thanks for sharing your journey. Super helpful!
Was wondering did you change anything between your first and second cycle.

Thanks.

@Warrier87 the only thing that changed throughout the 4 cycles was they increased my progesterone. On first 3 cycles I was on 2 x 400mg of pessaries only, also 2 x 2mg of estrogen on frozen cycle.
On the 4th cycle I was on 2 x 400mg pessaries, 1 x 25mg Lubion injection and 4 x 2mg of estrogen.

I don’t think these had any reflection on the follicles numbers as these are not started until shortly before collection. The meds taken for both cycles were exactly the same so I was shocked to see a difference in follicle size. I was devastated when I was told there was only 8 follicles second round but it worked out better as I’m now 12 weeks pregnant :)

Good luck :)
