GP won’t refer me as partners test abnormal

Hi,
Went to GP as ttc for 18months and I have endo. My blood tests all came back fine, but GP wouldn’t refer me for further tests until my partners tests were complete. Partner got his results today with “some slight abnormalities” hence he has to retest in 3 months, and GP won’t refer me for any more investigations until those results are back.
Is this usual?
Thanks

I think all areas are different but when I was referred it was me only that my GP was concerned about. Whether it was because my partner was with another surgery or because he had children I don’t know. It was a while ago so I can’t remember the questions asked. I would push back as normally they say if you have been trying unsuccessfully for 12 months they should refer you.
Good luck

Yes that is normal protocol. If his first set of results come back with anything out of normal range , you have a repeat test 3 months later. This is to ensure the first test was accurate weather it be due to laboratory accuracy or if it may have been due to that specific sample as sperm replenishes every 3 months and often If a man is sick , under stress ect during that period it can affect the sperm.
Regardless of how long you've been trying , a repeat test is part of the process in your case . Your gp won't send you for further investigations until the repeat test has been performed .

Hi OP,

No words of advice but just wanted to say we're in the same boat so can totally relate to how frustrating it is.

As much as I can understand the reasoning behind it, it's very disheartening to have to wait so long and feel as though the next few months are going to waste.

I'm planning on using it as time to make sure I'm in good physical shape and eating healthily etc so that we stand a better chance when our time comes.

Sending love!
