Has anyone got pregnant with first round of IVF?

It depends what you count as a "round". Some refer to a round as a full retrieval. Others count a frozen embryo transfer as a round.

I had one egg retrieval in 2021. We got 18 eggs. 17 fertilised. We got 7 blasts and froze all due to OHSS.

We had our DD from our third FET. First was cancelled (thin lining), second was negative.

We got pregnant from our first collection using our first fresh embryo. Unfortunately I miscarried at 8 weeks. Currently 12 weeks pregnant from 4th transfer (2nd collection).

@hja62 thanks for your reply, I'm very new to this. Will be starting IVF as soon as my HSG results have come back.

I think I was referring to the full retrieval first time. I know you only get 1 round on the NHS so was wondering how likely it was that you got pregnant that first fresh retrieval.

I think I have a lot to learn!

@SH998 sorry to hear about your miscarriage. Congratulations on your pregnancy. So the 4th transfer was an FET?

@CYMB101 thank you :)
We had 2 transfers from the first egg collection, one fresh- miscarriage, one frozen failed.
From the second collection, one fresh - failed, second frozen - pregnant.
Each transfer was trial and error as everyone reacts differently. Hopefully you wouldn’t need this many transfers for your happy ending.

I'm doing this for a few years and still going as we TTC our second and I'm still learning!

I do believe (and stand open to correction), that frozen embryo transfers have a slightly higher success rate than fresh. I believe this is because the body has been allowed to recover from the high dose of stims from the retrieval. That being said, I have definitely heard of successful pregnancies from a fresh transfer. But there are just so many factors at play including quantity and quality of embryos, age, any known factors contributing to your infertility, it's hard to call your chances of success.

We are TTC No2 now using our remaining embryos and have had a much more difficult journey than TTC our first. From starting IVF to falling pregnant with my daughter was 8 months. We have been TTC No2 for 13 months using our frozen embryos and have had a chemical, 2 miscarriages, surgery and we lost one embryo that didn't thaw. I naively thought we would have a second with relative ease after our DD that this has hit me hard. We are down to our last embryo.

IVF is rough. There are no rules, no guarantees, and very little is in your control. Just look after yourself, don't blame yourself when things go wrong, and take everything one little step at a time xx

Incredibly lucky here - 10 blasts frozen from first round (ohss). First transfer gave me my firstborn. Second transfer gave me my youngest.

If you're looking for positivity, great things can happen, but I know my experience is not common, sadly.
