IMPRYL Success - Sperm Motility - Semen analysis

Hi everyone

I spent ages on Mumsnet trying to find hope and ways of improving my husband's sperm. I wanted to share our experience to help others!

In April 2023, he had a semen analysis which showed only 19% progressive, and these were "sluggish progression." He had ZERO in "excellent progression."

His morphology was 3%, so it was not too bad.

He had a good sperm count at 96 million on 3.1ml sample.

We had been told we may need IVF ICSI.
We had been trying for around 9 months at this point.

The consultant recommended to my husband that he take Impryl and we keep trying. He was a bit dubious but thought, why not.

Anyway, fast forward to August 2023. He has been taking Impryl for 4 months. He had a repeat analysis on Monday and I wasn't expecting much. These were the results.

Results from repeat analysis are:
MOTILITY
Excellent progression: 27%
Sluggish progression: 20%

Morphology has increased to 4%

Sperm count was 108 million on 3ml.

I wanted to post this because I felt devastated after the first analysis. Every single one of my husband's parameters, including count, has improved drastically in % terms.

He did cut down on caffeine a lot but probably actually drunk more and put on a bit of weight. I 100% think this is due to Impryl.

I am not pregnant yet, but my tests showed no issues. I hope this gives someone hope and we will conceive soon.

For context, I am nearly 30. He is 33. We have been trying since July 2022, so 12/13 months.

Follow up
Started impryl April 2023
2nd sperm analysis in Aug 2023 (they say it takes 3-4 months to regnereate)

Motility and morphology were amazing. Way better than the guidelines even say.

Just got my BFP after conceiving in Dec 2023.

18 months of trying, 8ish months of husband on Impryl. 3/4 of that it wouldn't have regenerated and one month we didn't "try".

It's expensive but that is the only thing we changed and I'm now pregnant

@alis20 amazing! Congratulations ✨ we tried it for a while before - but now going to order and stick to them for longer!

Thank you so much 💗

We honestly thought "a tablet can't help that much". And I couldn't find much about it which is why I created this post - to help others.

My husband took it every night. He also cut out caffeine at work so just decaf. But still drank occasional red bulls etc.

The other thing we did was we were vegetarian. The consultant said we could be lacking vitamins and the thing with vegetarianism is that you can get the nutrients, it's just harder and you need to be on top of your meals. So we started eating meat again like 2 x a week. But no idea I'd that helped.

I was really inconsistent with prenatal vitamins, which I know is bad.

We didn't do anything different the month we conceived. We "did it" on day of positive OPK, day after and day after that. So three days in a row. This was unusual for us. Like we'd normally stop at the 2nd day or miss a day type thing.

And we'd been to the pub like 4 ties that week as it was Christmas time.

Wishing you luck. For what it's worth, pretty much all of my husband's friends had ended up having fertility testing done because it was taking them so long.

Most of his friends took 18 months+ like us!

@alis20 its actually our second our first is 8!
he will be just 9 before this one is due which it’s tell me might be September 23rd ish!?
we started trying when our son was just 6!

I am only 3 weeks 3 days according to app - slightly worried I have got a pregnant super early but hey NOT complaining 😂🙌🏻

when are you due!?

alis20 · 11/01/2024 23:02

Aww that's amazing!

Did it take so long first time around?

For us it was horrible cause neither of us had conceived before so didn't know if it was even possible.

Sep 9th which is my birthday! But obviously that might change when I get first scan.

I'm 5 weeks 4 days! X

@alis20 Not at all he was a surprise baby when we were fresh out of uni
so we established jobs, got a house, waiting until he was at school, got married then BAM surprise infertility it was a shock as we were still under 30!

and I’ve had so many tests/ money/ surgeries I can’t believe we’re here now!

my son was born September 12th! So can’t believe both will possibly be September but it’s a great time to be born and academic advantage

I’ve a viability scan booked for 2nd of Feb so holding my breath until then ♥️ best of luck lovely! x
