IVF timings

Hi everyone - I was hoping to start my first IVF cycle this month but my period is due a little earlier than I had thought on 10th/11th (it was originally due around 17th). I've got a wedding on 22nd September and I am a bridesmaids so I absolutely cannot miss it. I'm worrying about the timing of scans or even worse egg collection. It's literally the only day in the month I cannot make myself free.

Are clinics able to be flexible to work around 22nd or would you delay starting until October? I feel like the obvious answer is to delay it but just wondered if anyone had been in the same boat. We've got this far and I'm just so desperate to start at this point!!

Hi @marshk I would speak to the clinic but the one thing they can’t be flexible on is egg collection as you have to go at the exact time/date they tell you to for that. Wishing you all the luck in the world

Check with your clinic, but if I remember egg collection is about 14-16 days from start of cycle. Only thing to bear in mind, is that the closer you are to collection, the more bloated you could be. I looked about 6 months pregnant but I massively overstimulated.

Thanks so much for coming back to me - being that bloated in my bridesmaid dress may not be the best idea anyway! Just really frustrating when you feel like you're nearly ready to start and something else crops up. Obviously really excited for the wedding but I'd thought based on previous cycles it wouldn't interfere too much and I'd be right at the start of stims. Not sure it's worth all the stress and worrying about dates when October is completely free

@marshk i know the feeling about just wanting to get started, if you are at all worried maybe just delay to October as you definitely won’t want to have any extra stresses when you start the whole process. 🤞
