Spotting hours after frozen embryo transfer

I hope someone with IVF experience can help me. I am 2dp5dt after my FET on Friday. This is our only embryo and my second transfer - my first ended in miscarriage in April. The transfer on Friday went fine but four hours after I had a bit of spotting (light brown mixed with mucous at first but then some red / pink blood) when I wiped. It was quite a bit on wiping but I’ve had no spotting at all since. Does bleeding so soon after transfer mean it’s immediately failed? I know it can’t have been implantation bleeding just a few hours after transfer! I’m pleased I’ve had no bleeding since but I’m still v v worried that spotting so soon after transfer means there’s no hope. 😞

it is likely that it was irritation from the speculum and the catheter from the transfer.
It doesnt mean anything at all.

Thank you for your reply ASGIRC. What you’ve said makes sense. I suppose I’m worrying because I’ve never heard of such post-transfer spotting and I worry about anything interfering with implantation! But I appreciate your response - thanks for trying to reassure me.

I had the same after my transfer back in March. I definitely think it's from the procedure.

Thank you Sangels267. Do you mind me asking you whether your March transfer was successful? It’s reassuring to know that someone else has had spotting so soon after transfer.

I’m 6dp5dt today and had the same thing. For 2 days post transfer. It’s still very early but I also got a few positive pregnancy tests yesterday and today so it has worked for me so far. Best of luck!

Thank you so much for sharing this with me alittlebitofscience. Huge congratulations on your BFP! I’m relieved to hear of someone else who has had spotting start just hours after transfer. I’ve been scared it means it’s all over for me! Wishing you all the best for your pregnancy.

@Moll85 unfortunately my transfer in March didn't work out but I don't think it's because of what happened. I'm 6 weeks pregnant now after my transfer in July. Keep positive and let's us know how you get on 😉 xx

Thank you for replying @Sangels267. Sorry to hear about March but wonderful that you’ve since had a successful transfer! Congratulations on your pregnancy and good wishes for the months ahead! I’ll be sure to let you know how I get on - after a worrying couple of days post-transfer I’m hoping for a calm (although it’ll still feel so so long!) 2WW.

I've been told in the past by the clinicians that the ET procedure can cause a little bleeding/spotting afterwards and not to worry if I saw any. Wishing you all the best!

Moll85 · 21/08/2023 06:20

Thank you for replying @RyvitaBrevis. My clinic have never told me this but it’s reassuring if post-transfer spotting isn’t too unusual. Hopefully I’m still in with a chance 🙏

Just to update this thread in case anyone ever looks to it for answers in the future, unfortunately my clinic have just confirmed a BFN. Obviously there’s no way of knowing if the post-transfer spotting was a sign of immediate failure - the embryo and my lining were good but of course there are always other factors at play / so many unknown variables. We’re devastated, obviously.
