Questions for failed FET meeting

Hi all,

In July I had a natural modified FET (trigger and progesterone only), test date was last week and it was starkly negative. I felt rubbish two days after the transfer then had no symptoms except tiredness from the progesterone.

We have a meeting with Kings tomorrow to talk about it, and presumably plan the next FET. We’re lucky enough to have embryos in the freezer.

I’m wondering if there’s anything I should be asking them about or requesting any tests. Kings don’t do any blood tests in my experience, so there’s no data to review. I’m assuming that they’ll suggest we do the exact same process again but I’m worried about another failure and no further information to go on.

This will be our last NHS transfer. Any guidance on things you’ve asked or anything you wish you’d found out earlier would be hugely appreciated.

@Labradoodlepup - so sore you FET failed 🌸 I have no advice but my FET is scheduled later this month so interested to see what people have to say

Hopefully there are some ladies who have some wisdom to share

Thought I’d update following the meeting. I was right, they won’t do any additional testing and will do the exact same protocol.

Doctor talked a lot about how statistically this failure was probably just bad luck. Little comfort. She said that they will be more open to looking into issues if the next one fails.

One of the things I was worried about is that the embryos might have a higher chance of being abnormal due to the male factor, but interestingly she said that the egg is dominant and can often fix minor issues with the sperm. She said with our age (34) about 30% would be abnormal.

@CoCoaButter85 I hope your FET goes well!

@Labradoodlepup - thanks for sharing your update. I'm 36 and my husband is even older so the chances of abnormal embryos are even higher.

I remember in my initial I also asked what we are going to do differently if the first attempt fails. The answer I've got was very similar to yours. It's frustrating doing the same thing and expecting different outcome but they are the specialists at the end of the day.

Thanks very much. I just want to get it done and see what happens. Fingers crossed your attempt number 2 will be more successful 🌺

Definitely ask them to test your progesterone levels on transfer day. Mine were very low and with extra drugs after I was tested on my third transfer, it worked.
