Waiting for embryos to develop to blastocyst

When we had ivf I specifically said please freeze on day 5 but the lab called on day 3 and said they had to freeze 2 embryos on day 3 instead.

We are now thinking of FET, all the other cycles failed so we would transfer both but is it sensible to ask then to to thaw and culture then to day 5 then transfer rather than go for a day 3 transfer? I’ve had an ectopic in the past so also a worry there about embryos migrating if they are day 3 ?

Has anyone done this ?

If they froze on day 3 it is usually because it didn't look good for them to develop outside until day 5.
The uterus is a much better environment for the embryo to develop than the lab, as well, so I think asking for the embryo to develop in the lab for another 2 days after the thaw is not going to be as helpful as you might think.

Even with day 5 embryos, ectopics are possible, particularly during transfers, much more than with natural pregnancies.

But maybe talking to your clinic about this will be the better approach, as they are the true experts.

I think a big part is having had all the previous transfers fail I’d almost rather wait the 2 days to see if they make it to day 5 in the lab than do a day 3 transfer and have to wait till my blood test as it just makes it worse almost 😭
