IVF Number of Transfers

I'm all very new to this so I'm hoping someone can help. If you have IVF, and the first transfer is not successful but three embryos are successfully fertilised and frozen, do you then have to pay for each further FET? Thank you in advance.

Yes if you're paying privately for treatment. Costs vary hugely between clinics so contact them for a full price list. As a rough guide our clinic is £3500 for a fresh cycle plus meds. FET is £1600 plus meds. Meds for a fresh cycle can be up to £2000. FET generally a lot less. Fresh cycle cost doesn't include freezing any left over embryos, there is an extra charge for this. Ours is £700 including a years storage fee, then £350 every year of storage. These costs also don't include ICSI if you need it, or any other add ons.

@SErunner many thanks for this. There's so much to try and work out.

It is a bit of a minefield with lots of things to consider for each individual. What is right for one isn't necessarily right for someone else. Wishing you luck on your journey x

Some IVF packages include FET in the cost (meds seperately) but this can be a much bigger cost upfront. Some also offer a partial refund under certain circumstances. They can have a more strict criteria too.

There really is so many options so I think it depends the position you are approaching IVF from.

From experience I would have when doing IVF privately always try to have extra funds than you expected it to cost incase unexpected things crop up such as having to change to a freeze all/not reacting well to mess and cancelling or something being seen on a scan an further investigation needed. I recently had this where a polyp was suspected and the additional cost for that privately was £2850. Was luckily I didn't need to go ahead with it in the end but it is unpredictable. Plus the costs with the clinic have defo raised in the last year unfortunately, £100 here, £250 there but it soon mounts unfortunately
