Wait or go private?

Hi all,

We’ve been TTC for over three years now and not a single BFP during that time. We only recently went through first round of ICSI with NHS which resulted in 1 fresh transfer and 4 frozen embryos. The fresh transfer failed and we’re now waiting on review appointment to discuss transfer of one of the frozen embryos as it’s also covered with the NHS.

My concern is that we might have to wait weeks for the review appointment and then wait time at the minute for FET is another 4-5 months.

Should I just go ahead now and reach out to a private clinic in the UK and can my frozen embryos (or at least 3 of them) be transferred to another clinic?

It’s very frustrating that it’s such a long wait for FET and I feel like I don’t have time on my side due to family history and low AMH for my age. I feel like clinic are taking the view that as I’m young, I have time! It’s taken three years to just get to this point and so I don’t any any further delay.

Any advice or personal experience would be greatly appreciated!

Yes you can transfer your embryos to another clinic but obviously you would have to pay to do this. By going private you may forfeit your right to any future NHS treatment, worth checking before you start. Private likely would be quicker even allowing for moving the embryos. Only you can really decide whether it's worth it for you. Age is probably a factor to consider. If you're younger it is all less time critical but this changes as you get older, significantly so once 40+.

I'd say depending on how old you are. I just turned 40 and my AMH dropped from being normal to like half of that in about 6 months. Things change very fast when you get older. So unless you have a lot time on your hands, I wouldn't wait.

@SErunner @contentsmayb Thanks for the advice. This whole process is horrible and I hate feeling like I don’t have control over it or fully understand it. It helps being able to speak to people that have been through it themselves.
