High dose of meriofert too high?

Hi all - I am about to start a fresh ivf cycle in August after a successful cycle in 2020. They are putting me on a dose of 450iu meriofert. After looking online I am reading horror stories about how it just forces poor quality eggs. Does anyone have experiences they could share with me?

Following as I will also be on 450iu of meriofert

@Purtyburty hey, I don't know if this helps but I've just been on Meriofert, 225 though for 8 days but they then had to reduce it on days 9-11. Does have depends on your AMH afc etc, do you have low numbers? I was on a higher does of Ovaleap in Jan (375 every day) and did have bad quality, who knows whether that would have been from the higher does though - not sure.

Have you asked your clinic?

Purtyburty · 13/07/2023 19:11

@wtawtaw what is your AMH if you don't
mind me asking? Mine was 8.2 but that was back in 2020 that it was done. I had IVF in 2020 on 300iu and got 2 blastocysts, one of which is my DD.

@Purtyburty my AMH first round in Jan was 15.8 - didn't get any blasts from 9 fertilised eggs. Second round this month it was 11.7, for 9 blasts, 1 transferred this week and the other 6 were good enough to freeze so I didn't better on lower dose so far. I did also take ubiquinol for just over 3 months after first failed cycle so that could of contributed to it too. First cycle was short protocol and second was long.

wtawtaw · 13/07/2023 19:16

@Purtyburty are you going on a long protocol? What was your last one?

wtawtaw · 13/07/2023 19:17

@Purtyburty sorry I'm walking as I type so my sentences don't make sense 😅 did* better this round...so far

Purtyburty · 13/07/2023 19:37

@wtawtaw I am doing a short protocol this time. That's amazing news on 7 good quality blastocysts!

My last round in May I started on 450 meriofert then went up to 600 after 3 days. Was on 600 for about 4 days then they lowered it again to around 300.
I got 9 eggs, 7 mature, 6 fertilised and 4 made it to good quality blast. Had 3 transferred but none took. Likely general egg quality issues/chromosome issues due to my age (41). Or could potentially be implantation issues which we're looking into now. My AMH was 3.9 in November (likely lower now) So they were quite pleased with how well I responded. It just didn't work out. So I think the amount of meriofert was fine for me.

wtawtaw · 13/07/2023 19:53

@Yumky do you mind me asking why they transferred 3 at once if they were top quality blasts? Or is that what you asked for?

Pretty much just due to my age. They said the chances of getting 1 was around 23%. 2 around 5%. And 3 less than 1%.
They said at my age at least 60% of my eggs will make chromosomally abnormal embryos and unless we opt to test them all we won't know how many (if any) are normal.

Purtyburty · 13/07/2023 20:01

@Yumky it is promising that yoI can get the good quality blastocysts. I do acupuncture alongside mine and it supposedly helps them lining thicken and prepare for implantation.

That's something I want to look into actually. May as well! Nothing to lose!

Purtyburty · 13/07/2023 20:09

@yumky if you are considering it I would hugely recommend going to one that specialises in fertility first and foremost. During my first round of IVF in 2020 my acupuncturist was with me every step of the way.
