Sperm Analysis Results - Help Please

Hi, I'm hoping someone can help or offer some advice.

My husband and I have been TTC for 2 years. My husband was requested to complete a SA by our GP. The first results came back saying no spermatozoa found in centrifuge deposit so he was asked to re-do the test. He's just had the second test results back and got the same thing (see pics for full results).

The GP has marked that my husband should book a non-urgent appt to discuss these results. Next appt they have is in a month's time. We've tried calling the GP surgery to see if anyone can speak to him sooner but as it's been marked as a 'routine' follow-up they won't.

My husband is super stressed thinking this means he has no sperm count. Has anyone had something similar before? Could there be another reason the results are coming back like this?

Thanks so much in advance.

Hey, I’m so sorry this was your result, we had the same with my DH, his was similar but it said ‘no sperm found in sample’ so I can’t be 100% sure it’s the same but from all of the n/a in the ‘sperm’ parts id say it is, the ‘semen’ is just the fluid that normally carries the sperm.

My heart goes out to you, I know it is truly devastating to get these results but please know there is things that can be done.
After tests / scans / bloods etc it was found that my DH had blockages in his pipes and had surgical sperm retrieval directly from his balls, which had then been used to do icsi ivf. If neither of you have children you will get a round free on the NHS.

I know it’s not ideal but it’s really not the end of the road and it kinda makes it easier that they know the ‘cause’ of why you aren’t conceiving so they do try and fix it / work with it, rather than months / years of investigations before starting treatment.

Any questions you have please feel free to ask.

Thanks so much @HopefulHead for replying so quickly! My gut was telling me that was the case but I wasn't sure if maybe they weren't able to test the sample for some reason or error on my husband's part.

I'm shocked that the GP has marked this as non-urgent and my husband has to wait over 3 weeks to speak with someone. I'm going to call them and see if they can speak to him sooner as he's understandably really upset.

@Lcm11 Totally agree! The doctors dealt with my DH appallingly too, he finally got to see the doctor by standing in the reception insisting they see him as they just kept brushing him off and wouldn’t provide his full results.
The referral & wait times for fertility treatment is long enough so I would advise you to push as much as possible.
Wishing you lots of luck ❤️

Thanks so much @HopefulHead. Have you been successful with your ICSI IVF?

@Lcm11 so sorry to hear this. It's a horrible position to be put in and such a shock to the system.

My suggestions are to:

  1. Make pre emptive GP appointments (you can always cancel them) especially a week after any scheduled tests
  2. Find if any of your eligible fertility clinics have an Male factor specialist and demand to go to that one (mine took 17 phone calls, speaking to the practice manager and all of the senior admin staff).
  3. Ring the fertility clinic repeatedly to check your referral has arrived and where you are in the clue, stuff is misplaced all the time.

Our fertility referral is in my name (we are male factor issues) so unfortunately it is women who have to chase. My clinic has had IT issues so even though I was promised an appointment within a month we are now looking at 7 weeks (plus the 2 weeks to sort the referral out), that's with regular chasing and follow ups.

Thanks so much @HopefulHead. Have you been successful with your ICSI IVF?

Nearly 🤞🏼 We got 4 embryos in the freezer, just had the first one put in last week!

@TheFanciestPants that's really helpful thank you! Sorry you're going through the same but hope you get to see someone soon.

My husband is not the most proactive with these sorts of things, but I'll make sure I'm on it with chasing the referrals etc.

Good luck with everything! Would be great to hear how you get on.
