hi, so we were referred for an appointment with the fertility clinic back in March. Finally got our first appointment date through about 4 weeks ago for monday (which feels like a life time waiting for) however i got a call yesterday from the hospital to say it has been cancelled :( i’m just wanting to know whether this has happened to anyone and if so how long were you waiting for a new appointment? i get things happen, life gets in the way but it’s just so frustrating that we were so close but yet again having to wait even longer :( any replies would be much appreciated to make me feel abit better about it!

@Jadelovely we were given one in feb after referral in October only to find out we had booked a holiday then because we got sick of waiting! I could have cried

i called immediately and asked for a cancellation appointment if there was anything last minute available I would take it and we got one 10 days earlier than our original. I almost wished I’d called that line sooner!

might be worth constantly calling the receptionist/PA of the team! Worked for us!

@longingtobe23 thankyou i will give that a go! how long were you waiting from the cancelled appointment to your original appointment before it was changed to the one 10 days earlier? i’m so impatient 😂 the hospital cancelled ours so i’m hoping we won’t wait much longer 🤞🏼

@Jadelovely i called the day the letter landed offering us Feb 27th.. they put me through to appointments and found a slot for Feb 17th! I accepted straight away so I knew instantly :)

they had a number to call to rearrange - you should also be prioritised if they cancelled on you!
best of luck it’s quick for you!

@longingtobe23 I was thinking the same as they literally cancelled late afternoon friday for the appointment tomorrow so i’m hoping we are one of the first in line when the consultant is back, he’s had to take immediate sick. Thankyou so much!

@longingtobe23 hi, just a quick update. I rang the fertility clinic this morning and the woman in the phone said they are opening new clinics to get everyone in whose appointment has had to be cancelled, so we shouldn’t be waiting long. It should be at some point this month 🤞🏼 that has made me feel better.

@Jadelovely amazing! Honestly I used to just accept their offers for appointments and never chase or call… but now it’s all I do 🤣😅 knowledge is power and they’re always usually so friendly it’s worth calling to ease your mind 💗 best of luck!

Jadelovely · 10/07/2023 12:07

@longingtobe23 I think i’m going to start doing the same 🤣 they really do seem friendly, they are probably used to seeing so many people in a rubbish position, they know it’s a sore situation. I’m definitely going to be annoying with the phone calls, so it pushes them along if anything 🤣 thankyou! same to you ❤️

Hi @Jadelovely
Just wondering which Location you are ?
The waiting game is horrible!

My Location is Wales and my local hospital was not great with providing details.
Such as the waiting time after the first Fertility Clinic Consultation.
Whilst in the appointment they hit us with the bombshell that the next step takes 12 months. (Never mind the 6 months prior to getting the Fertility appointment).

My age thankfully put me as priority and 2 months later we have just completed our examinations. We have the follow up and treatment plan in 3 weeks.

Really does make me sad thinking about all the couples that get hit with this information :(

@NovA08 hi, i’m based up in north yorkshire. It really is a nightmare isn’t it! we were referred back in March so waited for the initial appointment for four months which was supposed to be the beginning of this month. Then that got cancelled and we are in the waiting game again now for another appointment, who knows when that will be! 12 months! that’s crazy. You’d think it would definitely not take that long to have all the tests done. They don’t rush do they 😂 we are still young i’m mid 20s my OH will be 30 next year, so i can’t see them rushing about for us. Is does me too, it’s heartbreaking :( i’m glad they pushed it along for you though :)

@Jadelovely
That is good to know cause far as im aware its just Wales that do that at the moment and they also reduced treatment age from 43 to 40 last month, but you dont need to worry about any of that :)

Jadelovely · 17/07/2023 20:57

@NovA08 oh that’s a relief to know it probably won’t be that long for us, sucks for couples in wales though :( no we are both far off them ages atm (at least we have that on our side) we have been trying 2 years next month though! and we’ve had a few tests so far. My other half had a Sperm analysis test done back in january and everything was fine other than he had 3% sperm morphology. I did have a some bloods and an ultrasound and mine was fine. Hopefully soon we will all get our miracles 🤞🏼
