Failed ivf

Earlier this week I experienced my first round of failed ivf. I did natural FET. A few days later, my period has started but it seems a bit different to a regular period. Is this normal? Should I expect my next period to come in 30 days and be as usual?

So sorry to hear this xx I've been there myself.

Most people's cycle takes some time to get back to normal. You may find you next cycle is a little bit longer.

Sorry this one hasn't worked @KG1244 . When you say a few days later, do you mean just a few days after transfer? If so your progesterone levels may need to be checked and meds increased, I had this after my fresh cycle. I came on my period despite pessaries earlier than I should have so when I did my FET I had lubion injections too and that was the one that worked. Not saying it'll be the same for everyone but worth checking if you came on earlier than usual and despite being on progesterone. Best of luck with your next transfer x

I am also now pregnant and had lubion up until 12 weeks x

Hi both, thanks for getting back to me and for the advice ❤️ It’s such a crappy process! So the nurse confirmed the transfer hadn’t worked on day 11 (Tuesday) after a negative pregnancy test so I stopped the pessaries that day. My period started yesterday. Is that what would usually happen?

Period can come any time to be honest. For me it was always two or three days after I got my negative test.

What are your next steps? Will you take a break? Try again?

It's such a hard process. If you go again make sure they make some changes to your protocol however small x

@CR7 I’m seeing the consultant on Monday to discuss next steps. I want to get going as soon as possible but not sure how long they will want me to wait. I’ve only used progesterone this round so would have thought there would be less need for me to take a break. Our three remaining embryos are average quality so I’m quite keen to do another EC so there is a bit more of a safety net and hopefully some better quality embryos. Can I ask, how many rounds have you done?

@KG1244 I always had to wait a minimum of a clear month (so two periods) after an unsuccessful transfer.

I did three ec's (one nhs and one private duo stim)
Three transfers
One mock cycle
Hysteroscopy
EndemeTRIO
I also did pgta and had three euploid embryos

My third transfer worked. I was on different drugs the last transfer and we had really good info from The endemtrio

KG1244 · 07/07/2023 11:29

@CR7 thanks, that’s really helpful and congrats on the successful transfer. Do you remember what the grading was of euploid embryos? I’m not sure whether I’ve got much of a chance with my three Frosties - 2 4BCs and 1 3BC. We didn’t do PGTA testing as it was an NHS round.

For them to go through the pgta I think they need to be highish grade. I didn't ask to be honest. I know that sounds very controversial but as long as they were good enough to test I wasn't bothered. And if they got through the testing even better xx

@CR7 thanks! X

Hi everyone,

hope you don’t mind me adding to the group. I have just had a failed IVF cycle 😢 with the NHS, I started my period 9 days after a fresh embryo transfer. I have three more embryos in the freezer and was wondering when others managed to transfer their next embryo? I will have an appointment with my fertility clinic next week but just trying to get some answers.
thanks
xx

KG1244 · 12/12/2023 10:00

@Laurenm1990 so sorry to hear that. I know it’s really heartbreaking. So I was able to start my next cycle on my next period so potentially you could restart in January. What I did find though was that my next period after the failed cycle was really late. Took about 50ish days to turn up but then that cycle was a success! If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask ❤️

Thank you so much @KG1244 for your reply and congratulations on your successful round 🎉. Thank you for the information, hopefully I may be able to start a new transfer in January 🤞 did they change anything for you in light of the first round not working? I had a top quality embryo so unsure why it didn’t work. I am just contemplating do I transfer two next time round 🤔.
Thank you again
xx

KG1244 · 12/12/2023 11:21

@Laurenm1990 Thank you! ❤️ Try not to get too focused on embryo quality. My successful round was a 4BC and we changed from natural to medicated, using Lubion. I think the majority of clinics will only let you transfer 2 if you are over 35 but some say 40 as I don’t think the odds increase that much with transferring two xx
