Has anyone not ovulated on first cycle of 2.5mg Letrozole but ovulated on the same dose 2nd or 3rd cycle?

Hi, I'm yet to start Letrozole tomorrow and I am so nervous, this is my first time with it. I've had Clomid in the past with two successful pregnancies 14 years ago and I've decided to another 3rd child. Fingers crossed for both of us x

Hi,

They started me on a 5mg dose and no ovulation. Increased to 7.5mg and I ovulated on that cycle, but not the following one, tried again and have achieved ovulation this cycle.

If ovulation didn't happen on 2.5mg, is there any reason you/doctor doesn't want to go for 5mg?

Hi,
I'm not too sure about increasing the dose as this is my first time on Letrozole. Perhaps speak to your fertility nurse/ doctor. All the best keep us updated if you don't mind x

@SunsetsAndSandwiches

I didn't think to ask at the appointment as I was too upset about the first not working but I called the hospital a few days ago and their response was that this is just the consultants procedure.

Sorry to hear it I know how upsetting it can be as I've suffered from infertility since my 20s. Please don't give up hope, it will happen sending you so much luck and baby dust x

@StrwbryPie

I did call them and the consultant refused to up the dose and didn't give a reason. I'm so worried that we're just wasting 2 cycles when we only get 6. He said he will up the dose on cycle 4 if I don't ovulate on these two cycles. However, they aren't monitoring me for these two cycles.

I'm so upset and frustrated but I'm hoping that the consultant knows what he is doing and has seen it work for other women on the second cycle. He did say not to feel deflated because it rarely works on the first round. So I'm not sure!

Oh thats very odd, they're meant to be monitoring you to see if you are ovulating with a scan. I think maybe you should contact the fertility nurse. I've been assigned nurses that I email with concerns and also book scans etc. I've actually got a scan booked next Monday and they've also given me a trigger shot that they'll inject me with to release the egg if they see a follicle on the scan. I don't know where they've prescribed you the same.

Perhaps the consultant thinks this is the best course of action for you at the moment. I know it hard to be patient when you want this more than anything. Hang in there x

@StrwbryPie

Are you paying privately for treatment? I don't think they would give me an email address to contact. I just have to call gynecology reception!

No it's on the NHS, the email is for the fertility nurses at the hospital.

@Purplemonkey23 This is my first cycle of 2.5mg Letrozole too! I'm doing Ovulation Induction privately and they aren't monitoring me, just a CD21 blood I definitely haven't ovulated, so hoping they will up the dose (I will probably jjst ask outright to up the dose).

Can I ask your reason for having to use Letrozole? I have PCOS and don't have periods or ovulate on my own.

Oh right, my doctor thought it was best to go through NHS first and see what they can offer me. I have PCOS and don't have regular periods and don't ovulate I had to have my two other children through Clomid. I'd be happy if you keep me updated I would love to know how you are getting on x

Hi, I’m starting my first cycle of 2.5mg tomorrow and really don’t know what to expect. Me and hubby been TTC for 2 years now so really hoping this is the light at the end of the tunnel x

Hopefully it's a positive journey for you. I downloaded Premom app and ordered easy@home ovulation kits off amazon. You take picture of your test preferably after 10am and once in the evening before 8pm and the app measures your LH levels. Hope this helps, all the best x

Hi, I just found your thread. I'm about to try letrozole to try help ovulation after irregular periods and low AMH. How have you found it so far? There don't seem to be many stories (success or unsuccessful) of taking it that ive found...have you seen any? Thanks

It didn't work for first cycle. I ovulated and bloods showed results too,however didn't get pregnant. Surprisingly my period started without any medication and currently on day 1 of letrozole 2nd cycle. The nurse told me it takes a few cycles for it work. All the best x

@Gkb90 How is your first cycle on 2.5mg going?

I had my day 12 scan yesterday and showed my lining has gotten better as my lining wasn’t getting to the right thickness beforehand but it’s not where it’s meant to be yet so my dr said it could thicken up over the next two days as my folicle was present and growing and should be ready to release an egg in the next two days. Does anyone have multiple folicles with this medication as I only had two present in one ovary one was very small the other was fine and the other ovary had none

SunsetsAndSandwiches · 13/08/2023 08:59

@Gkb90 I have only had one dominant follicle on each cycle so far. I know there is a risk of multiple pregnancies so presumably some people do get more than one?

@Dkann welcome to the group! I have just received a bfp after my 3rd cycle on Letrozole. I started on 2.5mg which did nothing, but on 5mg I ovulated and have conceived on the third cycle. My fertility clinic didn’t do any tracking apart from a progesterone test on Day 21 to confirm whether I did ovulate or not.

It’s a very early bfp so I’m not getting ahead of myself just yet, but I hope hearing a positive story of Letrozole gives you hope! It’s a long and lonely process, so do keep us updated on your progress!

@sl7uk so pleased to hear you have had a BFP! Hope it's a happy and healthy pregnancy for you.

I'm afraid my update isn't as positive, I did not ovulate on my 6th cycle of letrozole so we are now going down the IVF route.

Good luck @Dkann - sorry my update isn't the reassurance you might have been looking for, but what I would say is to take each cycle one at a time and try to remind yourself that IVF is a fallback option. I found this really helped to keep me sane through the roller coaster of IVF induction. I hope it's a short journey for you and you get a BPF soon
