Cyst found at baseline scan

Hi all

I’ve been down regging for 3 weeks on buserelin - had a period last week. Went in for my baseline scan today and they said my lining looked nice and thin but I have a cyst on my left and right side. She didn’t really give much away about what that meant just said that they would have to take bloods to see if they were producing hormones.

I’m currently waiting for a call with the results and plan. I asked when I was there if there was a chance the cycle would get cancelled and they said it depends if the cysts are producing hormones and the level. If they are it wouldn’t be safe to continue. Or she said it might just delay things and the cysts might have disappeared by my next scan.

I’ve never had cysts before ever! They think it’s the buserelin that’s caused them as sometimes it can due to the hormones.

I’m meant to start ovaleap on Saturday but I don’t see that happening now 😭 has anyone been through anything similar?

I’m so gutted.

@Raleighx Thats so tough, I’m sorry this has happened to you 😞 it’s so disheartening when you go for an appointment and something pops up that you weren’t expecting. We were told 3 times during our cycle that it was likely to be cancelled and it is just heartbreaking so I really feel for you ❤️
I never had a cyst picked up on my scans but on EC they told me that I had a very large cycst that they have mistaken for a large follicle that had to be drained, I ended up having a freeze all cycle because my hormones were too high for a fresh even though they only got 7 eggs, and you explaining that cycsts can be linked to hormones makes me think that’s why I ended up so poorly because I continued stims with an unnoticed cycst.

I know it won’t be what you want but if they do cancel because of them you just have to know that it is with your health in mind and they want to give you the best chance of success, if those cycsts will affect you getting the best results then it really is worth cancelling and having it pushed back a month, even though it really is so heartbreaking 😞

I will keep my fingers crossed that your results come back and they say you can continue ❤️

@HopefulHead thank you lovely! That's it.. I think it's the unexpectedness of it all. I was so stressed that my period wasn't going to come in time. I didn't even think of the possibility I might have cysts. Oh bless you.. that would make sense that it was down to the cyst!

Ahh I know you are right and I want to have the best chance of success. It's just soul destroying. I had the initial consultation back in October and have waited this long to get going with everything as the clinic is so busy.. to then have done 3 weeks of injections and potentially have the whole thing cancelled is unbearable. It's just so hard when the whole thing is out of your control isn't it.

Thanks ❤They were meant to call last night with the blood results but they weren't back yet so I'm expecting a call this morning. Keeping everything crossed.

@Raleighx It is so tough isn’t it :(
We first started last august and should have been all done and implanted by January and we have had so many push backs and things come up that we’re now nearly in July and still not implanted, ivf just brings up so many things that you don’t expect and it just crushes you each time doesn’t it :(
But hopefully this will be your only push back and if it is cancelled they let you get straight back on it next month 🤞🏼
If they haven’t called you I’d just give the clinic a call, I know you may feel like you don’t wanna be pushy but they’ll understand it’s really important to you and I guarantee they will have dealt with much more pushy women over the years! I don’t know how my clinic never blocked my number with the amount I used to call them 😂

everything crossed for you 🤞🏼🤞🏼

@Raleighx can I ask what the update to your journey was? I’ve been in buserelin for 4 weeks now. I did my first 2 weeks and they said my lining wasn’t thin enough and they thought I may have had a cyst or a sack of liquid. They asked me to do another week of medication. I went for another scan and my lining has got thicker 15.9 and 2 follicles were developing. They told me to go home and take a shot of ovitrele and do 2 more weeks of buserlin. Currently feeling very down about it.

@GoingStirCrazyIVF oh I'm so sorry to hear this! It’s so hard when it’s out of your control and you feel so helpless. I really hope the trigger shot works and when they scan you in 2 weeks time you’re where you need to be.

so in my case when they did bloods to see if the cysts were releasing hormones they weren’t so they advised me to continue with the cycle as normal. I asked if the cysts would have any affect on the outcome and was advised they wouldn’t… however despite a normal amh and initial tests coming back good I had a poor response to the stimulation drugs. Everything I have read about cysts since points to a negative outcome on the cycle so I was surprised the clinic advised me to continue knowing the cysts were present.

I only had 4 follicles when I went to egg collection. They drained the cysts at the same time. Luckily I got 4 eggs which all fertilised and made 3 good quality embryos. I’m currently 10 weeks pregnant from my first transfer so it all turned out well but it was touch and go whether I’d even get to egg collection cos of my poor response.

wishing you lots of luck with everything!

@Raleighx congratulations on being 10 weeks pregnant! My next scan is on the 19th but I’ve had no additional bleed so not feeling very hopeful. I’ve paid for 3 rounds up front and fee like I’ve fallen at the first hurdle!
