BFN on 1st IVF cycle

Feeling very deflated after finding out we are not pregnant today. Embryo was very good quality, I ate healthily, had acupuncture, etc. I don’t know what else we could have done. I just feel like it’s never going to work. This is after 4 natural early losses in 2 years as well. Mentally I’m not sure how much more I can take.

I don’t really know what I’m looking for but if anyone has any advice or stories of success after a similar situation, it would be much appreciated.

Jenny

Hi @JLB234 , my first fresh transfer was a BFN with what was an excellent grade embryo, really thought it must work as we had done everything right in lead up to transfer day but a BFN and in fact bled early on that cycle.
We went into the frozen transfer with more caution because we thought if a top quality blast didn't implant why would this one, but he did implant and I'm now 37 weeks + 2 pregnant :) only changes I made for the second transfer were taking high strength vit D and having daily progesterone injections as well as pessaries as it was a little low on just pessaries.

Do you have any embryos frozen from your first round? Hope you're OK, it's not an easy day whennyounsee that BFN after all the effort but a BFP can follow x

@Imisscoffee2021 thanks for sharing your positive story and congratulations on your pregnancy :).

Yes, we got 3 very good quality embryos so we have 2 frozen. I was on both pessaries and injections this time but will look into high strength vitamin D. Can I ask what iu you were on?

It’s just so disheartening but that’s life I suppose!

Thanks so much!

@JLB234 I found the frozen cycle so much better for my body than the fresh, and I think statistically they now work more than fresh due to less meds in your system etc, it was a much better transfer and I got a faint bfp 4 days afterwards so it all happened quickly :)

Sorry what's iu?

JLB234 · 26/06/2023 17:51

@Imisscoffee2021 ahh really? For some reason, I always think fresh is best. Must be relating it to fruit or something!! Thank you, that’s made me feel a bit better.

Apologies, I meant what amount of Vit D were you on?

It was just the 4000 iu ultra high one, took that daily as was also October so not much sun :)

I think frozen used to be statistically less successful than fresh but they've made such progress with it that they're on par now. I had to wait for a natural cycle between the BFN and starting the frozen round but time passed quite quickly once we'd come to terms with the fresh not working and looking ahead to the frozen, and its so good to have some frosties of good quality :)

Huge hugs, it's really painful. And so sorry for your previous losses. Did you have any investigations due to your repeat miscarriages? And have your clinic discussed this as part of your IVF treatment? As pp said, it's not unusual the first time doesn't work regardless. It takes 3 transfers on average for a live birth and there is no evidence an FET is less likely to work. Wishing you luck for future rounds x

Thank you @SErunner. Yes, we went private after all tests on NHS came back fine. They found that my NK cells are high when pregnant so I’ve also been on 20mg prednisolone since the day before embryo transfer. In a way it’s even more disheartening that we’ve had all this in place and yet it still hasn’t worked.
