Should I freeze more eggs?

I'm 34 and single, so I did egg freezing this year and got 24 eggs so far, meeting the original goal of 20 eggs to give an 80% chance of a live birth.

I'm considering whether to do another round? On one hand I can afford it, and it will give me some comfort that I have done everything I can. On the other hand, I found the process quite taxing on the body, difficult to arrange around work and not doing another round will give me about 4k extra to pay off the (expensive) mortgage.

Any advice please?

@Okigen it's very tricky. There has been so much in the press recently about how many eggs actually survive the thaw and the fertilisation (when you're ready).

I've gone through ivf lots of times and I am on many threads with ladies who've been doing the same.

We have all found that the fertilisation process whittles down the numbers and then the numbers are whittled down again on the journey to blastocyst. Then of course the embryo is guaranteed to implant.

However your numbers are excellent.

Personally if it was me I would repeat the process. I've had three egg collections and four transfers to get to where I am now 11+3 so I know what a toll it takes on your body xx

*not guaranteed

I am also not sure who said there is an 80%% success rate to you. I've never heard anything like that number before. If that was the case, 80% of women would be successful first time around after an egg retrieval and sadly that is wildly inaccurate xx

I would agree. I had 18 collected which went down to 6 and then went down to 4. I would suggest another round of freezing if you can. The fertilisation process can be brutal.

Hi both, thank you for giving me a lot to think about. I will ask my consultant again about the fertilization. When we started she explained the probability of each step from freezing to live birth to get to 80%, but honestly I didn't pay much attention. I guess my main concern is the another extra 10 eggs won't increase the chance that much while adding to my financial constraint, although I may regret it next year once I pass the prime age.

@CR7 I had 2 cycles, not one, so from what I read 80% sounds about right for my age. Also, I've just realised the success rate of IVF is always quoted per retrieval rather than per number of eggs collected, how odd. Also, I hope your efforts will soon bear fruits with a beautiful baby💐
