IVF with irregular periods? Can I?

Hi. So we've been on this ivf journey for a few years now but it's been constantly pushed back because of my health. When we first got funding, I had regular periods but now my health has improved but my periods are irregular due to the treatment I'm having. How will this effect our journey? Will they be able to help me kick start a period and how easy is this?

(Dw, my consultant is on board and we have been given the green light!)

Hi @babypleasenow great that you are able to start the IVF journey, it must be exciting to finally start the cycle.
I have irregular periods and the clinic have put me on the pill for a few months in the lead up to it or /and norethisterone for 10 days before treatment to induce a bleed and from then on they can start a cycle. They might need to coincide it with a current bleed or to just start you on the pill it depends on the clinic. As I’ve been on two different protocols depending on the doctors view.

however there’s definitely an easy way for them to get a bleed through the use of hormones and hopefully you won’t have any problems with it!

wishing you the best of luck with your treatment ❤️

@babypleasenow i wouldn't worry as apparently it's common for cycles to go awol on lead up to ivf due to stress etc. They don't care as you'll be given meds to control it. I wouldn't worry. Ivf screws them all up anyway!
