Has anyone had a Antral Follicle Count scan before ? Just wondered if there is a specific time during the cycle when this is completed ? Would doing this on/around ovulation be risky or irrelevant? Tia xx

I had one done last week as part of a Initial baseline scan with ABC. Mine was done on day 18, they could see I had ovulated so found that useful and they managed to get full access to view both ovaries, 29 follicles in total.

Some clinics like to do baseline on days 2-5 but my clinic said it was fine, I think for the actual treatment cycle they will.

I think pre ovulated would probably give them an insight into how big your follicles grow. I know from doing unmedicated IUIs (diff clinic) they monitored and measured the follicles approaching ovulation, they referred to them as "recruiting" follicles and they always found that helpful.

Thank you so much for this explanation @ttcsolomumtobe. I have managed to imagine worse case scenarios and also that the scan could interfere with conception based on timing/ovulation ..

Yea I often overthink it, but when I booked it I asked did it have to be a certain day in cycle and she said no as it's internal. Also I believe he device they use is the same one for internal early pregnancy scans so all safe there x
