Hi everyone,

I’m hoping someone can give me some advice. my husband and I have been TTC for 2 years now with no luck. I ovulate regularly and have regular periods. My dr has confirmed this with a blood test and gave me a gynae referral but the waiting list is over 3 years long.

my husband is going to contact the gp this week to have his tests done but can anyone advise what tests he will get? Will he just have to go on a waiting list too or can the gp do male tests?

if his tests come back all clear I was thinking of paying for a private HyCoSy. Does anyone know if we paid for this would this bypass the gynae wait please?

thanks in advance for any help or advice!!

There is a website called hertility where you can order a home fertility blood test for £150. Comes with a gynae explanation when you get the results. Could be a good stop gap idea whilst you wait x

@CloudySky82 i wouldn't look at a hycosy as it doesn't do much and you can't try the month you have it. It all gives the worst cycle bleed I've ever had!

It could be male factor. He needs seminal analysis and then general bloods for both of you. You will need thyroid, vitamin d and iron/folate also if you have not had. You can also see about clotting factors but normally they won't do this until 3 miscarriages.

I think you can get most of this from at home testing but best he gets the seminal analysis done properly.

@Fox01 thanks for your response and advice. My husband is going to ring about getting his semen analysis done this week before we do anything else.

do you know what the bloods would be looking for and is this something the the gp would usually do or would we have to wait on referral for this please? I always thought the next step would be the check that tubes aren’t blocked.

You need to find out amh etc before tubes. Have a look at the website I mentioned below

@CR7 I did the quiz on the website and will order the test once my husband’s sa comes back. Thanks for the suggestion
