Mosaic embryos

Hello everyone 😊

anyone have experience of opting for genetic testing for their embryos and getting a mosaic result?

we had two embryos from our last round and only one was viable… It looked great and was genetically normal (euploid) but I miscarried.

this time- one was abnormal and the other has been graded as mosaic.

so keen to hear any experiences of transferring a mosaic embryo… or anyone thoughts?

We will have genetic counselling and I want to be prepared with questions.

I obviously don’t want to go through another miscarriage but my main concern right now, is what if it works… but the baby is born with abnormalities or is very unwell? I just can’t seem to find clear information about the specific risks.

some of my research reading suggests that if you actually manage to get pregnant and do not miscarry, then the baby is no more likely to have genetic issues compared to any other baby. But other things I read suggest a mosaic baby does have a higher risk of genetic abnormality.

So hard to know what to think and do.

hugs and hope to all xxxx

HI @amoobaa . I am having a similar dilemma. What did you end up doing?

amoobaa · 02/08/2023 11:50

Hi, I’m transferring and can share my genetic advice report from the counsellor when I get back home.

Transfer booked for 14th august. Nervous… do you know the exact mosaicism result? Chromosomes affected?

Have u found the support group on Facebook? Lots of info there… will be back later today once I’ve finished work.

I see, thank you. That would be great.
In our case, we have 2 low mosaics, there are a small part of chromosomes missing and a small part duplicated (16 and 22). We are having a consultation with our genetic specialist next week, we will see what they say.

Good luck with your transfer!!! Hope all goes well.

Thank you for the FB group recommendation, will take a look.

Hey sorry for the delay, the fb group if you haven’t found already is called:

my perfect mosaic embryo

the genetic specialists said it doesn’t matter how many cells are affected, what matters is whether the results indicate a whole chromosome deletion/duplication, or just a small part (ie a segmental mosaic) and it sounds like yours is segmental, which is the best kind for success.

I really hope you get the results you’re hoping for!

Would love to hear what your appointment reveals if you’re happy to share… this is all so new!

I’ll try and post a photo of the info I got given :)

I think these images may be in the wrong order! But this is the reassuring info we were given. Fingers crossed!

My cycle got cancelled- lining didn’t get thick enough. I’m exhausted and preparing for another round to allow transfer to go ahead.

hope you’re having a smooth journey 🙂

Oh no, sorry to hear that! Hopefully next cycle will go smoother!!!

contentsmayb · 10/11/2023 12:50

Hi @amoobaa , have you gone through the new cycle? Any luck with your embryos?

I am waiting for a transfer this month.

I transferred a mosaic a few years ago - a monosomy 11. I'd recommend joining mosaic embryo Facebook groups - they are mainly American but very knowledgeable as it's much more common to transfer mosaics in the US compared to the UK. A segmental has a very good chance a successful pregnancy x

contentsmayb · 11/11/2023 08:01

@thelonemommabear was it successful for you?

amoobaa · 16/11/2023 17:07

@contentsmayb Good luck with everything, hope it goes well. There is every reason to hope with a mosaic.

I transferred mine and all went really well initiallly, but I found out today at my 7 week scan that I’m going to miscarry.

However, that happened with my euploid last time. There is a good chance with segmental mosaics (mine was segmental).

Definitely join the Facebook groups. They show you how many successes happen xx
